Sound Problem - DirectX 9.0?

I have been using DirectX 8.1 without any problems. I was able to hear in-game sounds, etc.

Today, I did a Windows update, and updated to DirectX 9.0. I also updated Windows Media player and a few securities update. After that, the game is very very slow and boggs down with the in-game sound on. When I turn the in-game sound off, everything runs fine. To see if drivers were the problem, I downloaded the most recent drivers. I have a Dell Inspiron 8000, Pentium III 850, with 512 MB RAM, and 6 GB of free HD space. I am running on Windows ME.

I heard that DirectX 9.0 could be causing these problems. Can anyone help? I really like playing the game with in-game sound. I would uninstall DirectX 9.0, but that seems impossible. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem after doing an update last week. I did a search here and found that this is not a new problem. From what I have read it doesn't seem to be a high priority. Go ahead and try a search yourself and there may be something that helps you.

Try this to uninstall, I have not tried this so use at your own risk but appears to do the trick.
