Too many left-handed starting pitchers

In my solo fictional league, which I'm 26 seasons into, which began in OOTP4 but has been in OOTP5 for 9 seasons, I have twice as many left-handed starters as would be accurate for 1911, which is where I am in my sim.

I have not yet researched how this pertains to modern baseball; I have 40% lefty starters which is probably a little high for 2003, but not necessarily out of the margin of error.

However, in 1911 it's way off target. It has a substantial impact on stat generation because lefty bats are not getting the appropriate number of ABs against righties. It is also more of a problem with 3- or 4-man rotations, because 40% of a 4-man rotation is almost half, whereas 40% of a 5-man rotation is only 2/5.

I look forward to this being looked at, possibly as an era setting? The more I think about it, the more difficult the issue becomes, but there is still something to this.

Just did an export from two of my fictional leagues.. They had fairly similar stats.. Not sure if there is an easy way to clearly define a pitcher as a SP or a Reliever, so I used anyone who had SP duration as the decider..

average of the two leagues: 192 starting pitchers

Average of the two leagues: 47 Left handed starters.

This included major and minor leagues. So roughly on average somewhere between 20-25% of the SP seem to be Lefty in fictional leagues.. That number does not jump out as me as that off, but I have not done alot of research to see what the current MLB ratio is..

For different roster sets or historic leagues, I don't know if the sets used might impact it any or not.. I know in alot of the current day rosters that include alot of prospects, I see a high number of lefty sp prospects in there vs Righty pitcher prospects (higher than the normal ration of LHP to RHP)..

Anyhows hope this helps some..

Alan -

If you can, though, please check just starters who are currently in rotations. I am curious to see what you come up with.

Ok, will have to do that in a bit since I dont have an easy way to extract that information from work to my home machine. Just had my raw player data.

Ok one league: 30 teams:

108 RHP in starting rotations
37 LHP in starting rotations

Other league: 32 teams

120 RHP in starting rotations
44 LHP in starting rotations..

Thanks for looking that up. Going just on instinct, it would seem likely that those numbers are fairly reasonable for a modern league.

It would appear likely that this is just another case where OOTP hasn't been configured for maximum accuracy in both historical and modern play. Or, that as has been true in the past, my solo league simply is a freak league (for those who care, my most recent two drafts have AGAIN had no brilliant hitting prospects).

I hope that v6, with its redesigned gameplay engine, will be able to incorporate a range of era settings for more stats (especially errors, SB and CS) as well as things such as percentage of lefty starters, global pitcher ability to hit, and positional emphasis on offense/defense.
