I was playing a game and took out my DH, and expecting to make my pitcher bat in the game . . . however, I could not put my pitcher into the lineup. On top of that, I could not select a new DH. Thus, I had an illegal lineup and had to crash the game.
I have done the update to 4.0a.

I relieved him for a pinch runner, I believe, (it was a while ago), then when I placed a player in his slot to DH I did not have the DH choice for a position to place him in. I did try even placing a pitcher into the lineup, but the game dumped him into the rotation, leaving the previous player in the slot. That brings up the question of "What if I wanted (stupid as it is) to use a pitcher as a pinch hitter in a DH game?"

I think you would have been ok if you left the PR in the game until the DH's spot came up and then subbed the new guy into hit (this is how the majors would have handled this anyways). I suspect the game choked because you tried to change the DH while you were on defense.
Not sure if this will work or not, but to get a Pitcher to PH try: Change the pitchers position to DH in his player card and enter him into the lineup. Otherwise you may have to go back to the old OOTP3 standby of opening the editor and editing the pitcher to a hitter and then back to pitcher. [ March 15, 2002: Message edited by: ScottVib ]</p> |

Not sure if this has changed at all, but I tried this in the very first version of OOTP4 that was realeased but switching the pitcher to a DH didn't work beause the pitcher that was pitching before the substitution still batted for himself. BUT I haven't checked that since 4.0, haven't tried it in 4.0a at all, so don't know if it's fixed.

I've just tripped over the same problem in the allstar game (at an AL park, obviously)
I decided to change the DH to get somebody else into the game for the fans. The new batter went into the lineup as PH, and I thought that as I was planning on leaving him in the game I'd change that to DH. However, the DH option wasn't included in the position choices; and to clear the position selection box I had to pick a different position. As I was thinking of switching catcher anyway I picked that, clearing the current catcher's position to blank, with no way of setting it to anything useable. This of course meant the game complained about an incomplete lineup. The way out of this appears to be putting the new catcher into the lineup (automatically setting him as PH). This let me get back to the game. (where the new DH I was putting in promptly hit a 3 run homer )At the end of the inning, the PH position gets cleared & you're taken back to the lineup screen. This time with no apparent way to get back to the screen, and it's program killing time
