- What kind of league was it? (Not sure that is vital but always good to know in case another user has the same issue.)

- Has it happened before?

- Has it happened again since then or does the game run normally but for that crash?

Couple of initial guesses:
1) Write protect issue - a game file was open in an editor, some of the league files were backed up from a CD and are now ready marked as 'read-only'.
2) Memory issue since it occurs at one of the most memory intensive points in the game (proceed to next year). Even with a lot of RAM you can have memory issues if there are certain types of background apps running and/or available HD space is running low and/or the game has been running for a long time.

It's the Maelstrom league... just screwing around with it in V4 to see how it looks. www.baseballmaelstrom.com

first season ran fine.

Question for you, Killer... Is it best to zip the whole .lg folder or what? One league that I belong to does that, so all that needs to be done is to unzip into the OOTP folder. Two other leagues work differently and require that the files be unzipped directly into the .lg folder. Just curious.

BTW, just ran another league, and it went fine proceeding to the next year. The one with the entire .lg folder zipped was fine, the other that was unzipped into the .lg wasn't. Both are OOTP3 imports

Red face

I've been getting the runtime error too, specifically:
error window title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Message: Runtime error! program c:\ootp4\oopt4.exe abnormal program termination

I get this error when I try to load ANY league, and when I try to create a new one. I have re-downloaded, and used one that someone else has downloaded and works for them. I have tried to "reset league". It did work for me when I first installed it, but after simming my 1st season, I have failed to load any league. I did create a new league during my 1st season and later deleted it (it was named differently). I have tried to delete ALL ootp4 files, and completely re-install. I have also tried the patch, with the same results. I have NOT tried to seach my registry for ootp4 entries and delete them before a re-install.

My system specs:
Windows 2000 pro
P4 1.8 Ghz
512 mb ram
Geforce 3 ti 200
40 GB HD, 8 GB free
All latest drivers, and DirectX 8.1a

Thanks for any help, let me know if any more info is needed.

What happened is you deleted the quick start league.

(Educational moment for those reading the thread and don't already know this)

Never, Ever Delete the last used league in OOTP4, you will without fail get an error as described above if you do this.

To correct this mistake you must create a folder with the exact same name as the league you deleted. (deletedleague.lg) Copy some default files over there. Then start OOTP4; the game should start up in that league you just created. Now go to open new league, open what ever league you want to be your new quickstart league. Exit OOTP4 and you can now go ahead and once again delete the old league.

Hope this helps... let me know if you have further questions.

I think the safest thing to do for the GM's is to zip up the entire .lg folder and allow them to unzip it straight into the OOTP4 (or OOTP3) directory. Removing the BMP files and any .BAK files the game creates is kind as well to reduce download size slightly (and file clutter).

The second method you describe requires the GM's to be slightly more alert and knowledgeable, and can be prone to missing files as described below. I think this method is simpler for a commish but may end up taking more of his time if GM's have problems.

It is possible that the one ZIP file was missing a key league file or folder. I know some leagues in v3 only zipped up changed/new files, assuming the user would not delete the old league folder and that could sometimes cause the same missing file errors.

I didn't delete anything at all from OOTP4. Other leagues work, but not this one. I'll try to reinstall the league and try again.

DaCubFan - I just checked the baseballmaelstrom.com league file and it does not contain the WEATHER.DAT file nor any of the the league folders - that might be the problem. I think v4 will automatically create the missing folders but the weather file may be important. Scott would be the man to answer that as he created it !

That league file is also missing promos.dat and messages.dat but those will be created when the league starts. It's possible if the league were simmed ahead that these newly created files could cause an error when you unzip the original league files back into the directory and try to open the league, not sure about that but very easy to test.
