This has happened to me three times today.
While simming through a historic league, my computer has locked up. Each time it's while the game is saving. After rebooting, trying to open the league it was saving causes the game to crash. PII 733, 128 RAM, latest version of Directx installed.

Has it happened 3 times with the same league and at the same spot? If yes then that league may need to be restarted, but if this has happened at different times and/or in differnt leagues then I'd make sure you had plenty of free hard drive space (my own limit is a gig free per drive) and then run a scandisk or Norton disk doc program.
It is wise to keep league backups every once in awhile. In OOTP2 I had many crash issues and saved a copy of the league each year. I got lazy in OOTP3 and saved backups less frequently because of no crash issues. If you are within minimum system specs and make sure there is always plenty of hard drive space empty, make sure you have no operating system or hard disk problems, and ideally don't run heavy resource intense apps (like Winamp etc.) while playing OOTP4 then I think there is a high probability of zero game crashes. Good luck! |

I've got 28 GB free on a 40 GB drive. I started the league over again. I made a backup after the first season, but failed to do so after that.
Thanks for the help, Killebrew. EDIT: I used the Era Calculator on that league. Maybe that messed up something considering it was made for OOTP3. Someone told me last night that it worked for them in OOTP4. [ March 02, 2002: Message edited by: spleen1015 ]</p>

I'm having the exact same problems, also with several different leagues...Default, Rolen's, and Lahman Imported Leagues. I've run Scandisk and defragged my drive...Plenty of free room. I'm at a loss.

I will try to duplicate this problem - if I am successful I'll post some further idea's. If others are having the same problem (the game freezes up while saving) maybe post here too to see how widespread this is or if it can be traced to a local issue on a user PC. |

I'm not sure my problem is caused by OOTP4 anymore. I just got a lock up and OOTP 4 wasn't running.

Well, I've narrowed down my problem to the saving of the player.dat file. Occasionally after the lockup, it will corrupt the file, and many players names will come up at boxes, OR the player.dat file will be saved as 0 bytes.
So now I see where the problem is, but I can't do anything about it. Help....please. |

spleen1015 - When saving any file causes a crash I always think of some hard disk issue first (or a read-only file issue). Maybe try disk doctor & a defrag and of course, rebooting after any crash is always wise as well. Good luck there, hope you get to the bottom of that quickly.
Larry013 - If your crash issue does not match spleen1015's exactly (now it sounds like it does not) I suggest you elaborate on it further and also provide some system info (HardDrive size, RAM, CPU speed, HD space free, & operating system). Your description of the player.dat file indicates the file is indeed corrupt (and therefore you will likely need to restart that league), but you mentioned this happens in several different leagues. Please give some more details, as much as you can - the more info the better chance we can help, and the better chance this post will help others that might have the same experience. Thanks. |

I did a scan disk and a defrag last night after I realize it probably wasn't OOTP4. We'll see how things go today.

I just started up OOTP4 and went to create a new fictional league. It was a 2 league, 1 division, 8 team per division league. It barely started to save when it locked up my pc. I don't know what's going on.

It happened to me again. I've noticed 2 of the 6 lockups that the status bars on Zone Alarm were completely full. I'm starting to wonder if the problem isn't related to Zone Alarm. I messed around with someof the setting on that and in AIM. trying to eliminate the problem. Kinda reaching at straws. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry, I set ZA so that it was locked and I allowed only those applications I need to use the internet to do so.

Well, this didn't work. Now, I've turned off my anti-virus software to see if that helps.

Still got a lock up with the virus detector off. I'm going to see what it's like without being connected to the internet (cable) and not running Zone Alarm.
Larry, what's your status?

I've been playing on my laptop. So, I haven't been messing with this for a few days. I'm going to mess with it a little today and see what I can get.
Larry, did you find out anything? Is anyone else using Zone Alarm while playing OOTP4?

I think I might have the same bug. I created a league with 8 teams in 4 divisions 2 conferences. Did the draft and everything and after the first game of the season, the game locks up. I wouldn't have said anything but it happened in the same format as printed on here earlier.

If I remember correctly ZoneAlarm is a firewall software and I seem to remember some people having issues between their firewall software and OOTP3, perhaps this is the case with OOTP4 as well?
