Post Big League Experience, Minor League Contract

One of my pitchers, Joe Valentine, pitched in about 25 games in 2002. In 2003 he got beat out in Spring for a roster spot and spent the entire year in the minors.
Now in 2004, Valentine has a Minor League Contract again...he wasn't released and resigned...he's been on my team the entire time...any ideas?

I'm using Rolen's rosters...

I have seen the same behavior in the game with some of my September call-ups. Once called-up, they get the minimum 100K contract. The following year, they're back to Minor League Contracts.

I think it's handled this way so that the minor leaguers up for a cup-o-joe get paid for their time in the majors.

This happened to one of my players. I'd bring him up for September and bring him back down before the end of the year. After he returned to AAA, his contract reverted to a minor league contract.

But now he's in the majors for an injured player, and I notice that because he's in his fifth year, his contract is listed in the "Possible Free Agents" window. So the contract doesn't reset just because the player is in the minors.

Actually happened to me in my current replay. Walter Johnson got hurt halfway through his rookie year (all of it spent in the majors), then languished in the Senators farm system for over 10 years! I think there is definitely a problem with how that is figured.

It sounds like you've found an exploit, I'll post this in the Beta forum so that it gets some extra attention.

Until then if you want to cheat you now know how to keep your players cheaper longer, promote them whenever, but make sure they finish the year in the minors.

Thanks for the info Scott, I'll be sure to screw the rest of the league and get my 79 mill payroll down to $0.

Scott:
This has been around in one form or another since V2. For me it always happened if the player spent the entire final year of a major league contract in the minors with no call-ups, he automatically stayed with you on a minor league contract the following year.

Usually, I make a point of releasing them during the playoffs as a workaround.
