Player given 2 at bats for failed squeeze play

I had a player,Elder White of the Cubs, attempt a squeeze play twice in a game and he failed both times. In each case there was a runner on third with one out. He was the eighth hitter in the lineup with the pitcher batting ninth. I checked the box score after the game and was suprised to see he had six at bats and not the four he should have had.
