I'm new to OOTP4 and lovin' every hour of it, but I've been having a problem when I exit the game.
Once I play the game and quit, I cannot restart the program without rebooting my computer. If I try to restart without rebooting, I get a blank window and the program hangs at that point forcing a ctl-alt-del reboot and sometimes a warm reboot. I'm running a P3 600 with 640 RAM on Windows ME. On a similar note, if I run Explorer before starting OOTP4, I have the same problem. Thanks

How much hard drive space do you have left?

Do you have any earlier instances of the program still running for some reason? Have you tried checking Ctrl+Alt+Del looking for something that might have hung and stopped responding when you tried to start it up again?

I tried again and waited. After watching the white screen for about five minutes then the blue screen of death popped up saying the system was unstable. Then I ctrl-alt-del'd to reboot.

It sounds like a system problem if the game will not run after opening explorer. If that is the case you should be noticing problems with some other programs as well.
In case it is a video issue and you are running OOTP4 in full screen mode, try disabling that and try it then. Of course DL current video drivers if you have not looked for them yet. Next up I'd make sure no background apps are running that could cause some conflict, try running it with minimal background programs. Finally, I'd check of any system upgrades at microsoft. |

That's the weird part; it doesn't seem to be happening with anything else. I've been trying to duplicate this with others and have been unsuccessful. The only time I have had anything similar the problem was solved by switching from 16-bit to 32-bit color. Currently I'm set at 32-bit color. That wouldn't possibly be part of the problem, would it? Did you check for updated drivers and any MS updates yet? By "Explorer", you mean Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer, right? Also, did you try disabling full-screen mode? |

It almost sounds like your CPU isn't freeing resources after certain programs are closed (OOTP and Explorer)...
I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination with this so those of you who know more than I do (and there are many of you) is this a possibility. |

No, it's Internet Explorer. Windows Explorer causes no problems. JL

The irony is I can open up three different graphic programs simultaneously - Corel Draw, Corel Photo Paint, and Paintshop Pro and neither causes the crash even though all can be memory hogs. JL
