not sure what caused this, but I took a couple of screen shots.
Using version 4, import year: 1980, default import settings. (hope the links work, not sure if tripod allows links) <a href="http://edm18210.tripod.com/files/kaat.jpg" target="_blank">Jim Kaat</a> <a href="http://edm18210.tripod.com/files/N_ryan.jpg" target="_blank">N. Ryan</a> I checked the database and the correct info was listed for both years. Also, I noticed the record book section was blank when I imported from 1980, didn't OOTP3 show the real MLB records? ________ [ March 06, 2002: Message edited by: edm ]</p> |

sorry, looks like it won't allow the direct links
you'll need to right click, copy short cut, then paste it in the browser. _____ [ March 06, 2002: Message edited by: edm ]</p> |

Those screenshots shows crazy rookie year stats for both pitchers (example: 37,737.25 innings pitched in 1966 for Nolan Ryan). Hopefully one of the historical play vets have some idea's here - just bump the thread if it gets buried.

Yes - we were discussing that here too:
<a href="http://www.ootpbb.com/board/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000256" target="_blank">http://www.ootpbb.com/board/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000256</a> I tried editing the Lahman 'pitchers.csv' file with Excel2000 - edited the 1966 entry for Nolan Ryan, and then imported the 1969 Mets single team, but the game crashed when it tried to import Ryan. When I backed the database back up with the original file it imported correctly but still had the error for Ryan in his '66 stats. I'm at a loss now, so I don't know what else to do other than start my import in 1965 and have Ryan import as a rookie with no stats. Appears the same thing happens with Charlie Hough in his 1970 stats. Anyone else have anything they can add?

Are N. Ryan's numbers incorrect in the database?
I looked at Jim Kaat for 1959 in the database and they seemed to be correct. That's what confused me, I thought for sure it was an error in the database. Then I thought it may have been a random error, but I did another import and the same thing for both players. I will go and try importing the same year with OOTP3, and will check if the same error shows up. |

ok, same thing occurs with OOTP3, only difference is the innings pitched show up correctly in ootp3. So the career ERA shows up correctly. Which is probably why I never noticed it in OOTP3. The only reason I took notice in OOTP4 was Kaat made the HOF with a career era of 0.76
anyway, I checked both Ryan and Kaat in the database and to me they both look ok. [code]"LahmanID","Year","Team", "Lg","W","L","G","GS","CG","SH","SV","IP", "H","ER","HR","BB","SO","ERA" "kaatji01", 1959, "WS1", "AL", 0, 2, 3, 2, 0, 0, 0, 5.00, 7, 7, 1, 4, 2, 12.60 "ryanno01", 1966, "NYN", "NL", 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 3.00, 5, 5, 1, 3, 6, 15.00</pre><hr></blockquote> Am I looking in the right place? the pitching.csv file? ____ [ March 06, 2002: Message edited by: edm ]</p> |

Yes the database does look correct, but I wanted to test the results of making a change (any change) just to try to be sure.
It does seem to be limited to players that had exceptionally long careers (Kaat, Ryan, Hough) but of course without looking at the career stats of thousands of players one couldn't be sure. This looks more and more like a bug with the import in OOTP4 rather than a database issue.

What version of the database are you using? Players have been known to sometimes not import properly because of the imperfect sorting the Lahman database. Many of these issues have been corrected, in the restorted databases that IatricSB has produced. (available under the files tab at <a href="http://www.boys-of-summer.com" target="_blank">http://www.boys-of-summer.com</a> )
The other issue that some of you could be seeing in the players who've had long careers, could be the rolling over of stats when the values exceed the maximum storage capacity of that field in the database. (Just a thought) That's what I can think of off hand. |

I have the same problem... is there anyway to edit a retired guys career stats? Bob welch should not be in my career leaders with a .29 era and 400 wins. This really takes away from a career league.
