Season start issue

I have a career mode going, and at the end of the second season, when it was generating free agents, the game froze. Consequently, it started a new season but did not set up anything (ie coaches period and so on) I figured I was missing something and tried to sign coaches, and they all agreed to sign. Then, I checked the log after the day, and a bunch of free agents had signed as well. The sign coaches, or sign free agents buttons usually available in the standings page are not there, and I dont know what to do. The game seems to be have been thrown out of whack, as Pedro and Guerrero signed the first day, rididculously cheap deals (they had asked for at least triple that until the last day of the season). Basically, I think the game didnt calibrate the offseason because of the freeze. What can I do to rectify this ?

guys, I stopped playing the aforementioned league until the problem was solved, so I opened
up another league and simmed what was left of the season. I added 2 expansion teams. But in both games (only the previous one had crashed), the batter rating or pitcher rating screen is amost blank...It says the talent ,but there is only black next to the name. When I click on the editor, the real value's and bars show up, but when I check the general ratings in the roster or
so, it has only the player's for whom I have clicked the editor as having ratings greater than 0. What can I do about this ? I am running WIN 98 SE, and I have a Sony Vaio Pentium 3, 500 mhz. This kind of bug or issue has not happened to me with OOTP before; I think the freezing in the creating free agents phrase in my other game had something to do with this.
