To everyone with the problem with 100% Cpu usage try this. I did and now my Cpu usage is very
low. I'm using Win 98 SE so for everyone using later versions of windows you may have to do this procedure a little different. Anyway try this: ================================================= To disable Advanced Power Management in Win98: Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | 'Device Manager' tab | Expand 'System Device' tree | Select 'Advanced Power Management support ' Press 'Properties' Select 'General' tab and in the 'Device usage' portion of the dialog, check mark the 'Disable in this hardware profile' option. ================================================= Anyway once I disabled my advanced power management, Cpu usage goes way down. Alright, I am having the same problem with OOTP3. My OOTP3 was freezing up or the screen was going blank after about 10 - 20 minutes. I thought my OOTP3 was corrupted so I uninstalled and reinstalled OOTP3. Well, needless to say, it didn't work. So I finally checked my CPU usage when I started OOTP3 and, sure enough, it jumps to 100%.
So, my Operation System is Windows NT. How would I go about correcting this problem? |

Interesting discovery. Unfortunately, in the Win2000 Pro environment Power Mgmt takes on a different form, so I cannot reproduce this. Win2K uses a Power Options tab, with several settings. I tried shutting all of them off, to no avail - still see OOTP at 100%.
Were there any other settings you were experimenting with when you ran across this solution?

Well, it seems that disabling Adv. Power Management did decrease my cpu usage when idle, but I'm still pegged at 100% when OOTP is running. Since APM sounds like some kind of useful, possibly important thing, I think I'll turn it back on.
Thanks anyway. ![]() [ March 12, 2002: Message edited by: JML ]</p> |
