Question game crashed - what about contract extensions?

i am in year 2003 with the expos. i play by simming a week at a time and then looking over the stats to see how my team is doing. before simming the week starting july 22, i signed 2 players to contract extensions (scott strickland and sean casey). i simmed the week, and on sunday, july 28th, i received several e-mail trade offers (4 of them). the game froze and crashed at this point. i had to CNTL-ALT-DELETE and stop the task. when i opened the game back up, the stats were up to date (july 28), but sean casey and scott strickland are back on my free agent list on the roster screen. however, if i go into the transaction log for the expos, it says they were both signed to extensions on 7/22. the money for the extensions is still available to me, so i can just resign them to the extensions, but it seems like all of the problems i have been having with the game freezing/crashing have been when i receive e-mail and have the dialogue box pop up to ask me if i want to stop simming. has anyone else experienced this?

fwiw - i am running a compaq 700MHz with 128 MB RAM under WIN98 SE.

Question

in addition to the problems above, a more serious one is that i had a player on the DL on 7/22, and his status was 2 weeks to recovery, and 1 day left on his 15 day stint. after simming the week and having the freeze/crash, his status is still 2 weeks to recovery, and 1 day left on his stint.
