I am playing a fictional league and I am trying to finish up the year 2006.
Problem: Everytime I start the game and go the schedule and click for it to SIM a week. It sims about 4 games and then it just stop, freezes. So I waited once for 15 minutes and finally hit ctrl, alt, delete and he said that the game was not responding? What the heck is going on here? Anybody had this problem? How do I fix this? I have Athlon 1.2 ghz, 256 meg ram, so I don't think this is the problem. Help me please. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for replying so quickly.
I am using OOTP4b with both patches. I can sim each game per day for each team from the league schedule. But when I try to sim a week at a time the game begins to sim and then after simming the first 4 or 5 games, the game just freezes up. I checked my line-ups and rotation to see if any players were injured and nope, everything looks fine. I don't know what could be causing this? The game was running very smooth until I got to the end of the league schedule in year 2006. |

Just wanted to let you know that I am not running anything in the background. Also, I have a 40 GB HD and I still have 29 free.
Also, I can move my mouse with no problem. Again, I am at the end of my regular season in the year 2006. The league has played 154 games out of the 162 game schedule. So I am almost finished with this year. This just started last night and this morning. I never had these issues with OOTP3 and did not convert any seasons over. It has something to do with simming a week at a time, because I can actually go the league schedule and sim the games for each team for that day with no problem and when I complete the games for the day the game saves my league like normal. Just trying to give you as much info as possible. Again, I appreciate your help. |

Since it stopped on one specific game I really suspect that the problem is related to one of the two teams involved in the game. You said you checked your lineups and stuff, but have you checked the computers lineups and pitching rotations, depth charts, etc.... sometimes they'll have an injury or make a trade or something and forget to fill that spot. Running computer manager on the teams involved in the game often fixes this.
Is it stopping for a game involving the same team each time... you said four or five teams down... often the schedule list teams in a similar spot in the schedule, so is there a chance that a lot of this is caused by one team (possibly computer managed) with something invalid? |

Well, I check all of the lineups and all the teams rotations and all the minor leagues and everything was alright.
I ran cpu manager for all teams and after all of this, the game still kept freezing on me when I would sim a week at a time. So, I disabled "the simulate minors" and that is what it was. I sim another week and everything ran smooth as ever and much faster. Is there anyway that "simulating the minors" can be addressed in a future patch? I really enjoy seeing the stats. I like to see this enhanced a bit. Thanks for all the help and support. OOTP forever! |

I am playing a 36 team fictional league and yes the minors are filled.
I simmed through the first 3 seasons with no problems. The 4th season is where I started having problems and it was only when I simmed a week at a time. If I simmed for one day everything was fine, except for weekly. So I took ScottVibe's advise and turned the "simmed minors" option off. Now everything is running better, no freeze up at all and is running much faster. Thanks for the reply. |

I am having this same problem, however mine is not responding after I play my teams game and locks up on "Simulating Minors".
I have a fictional league with minors filled. Also I have some injuries in the minors to some of my starting pitchers. I wonder if that is causing it. Another thing is that this did not happen when I was on Windows ME but I recently upgraded to XP on Sunday. Since then I was having this problem. I do not know if this is related. I also have plenty of hard drive space. Thanks |

This copy/paste advice from another post may apply to some of you here. Even if you have a monster rig but are running many background apps (or if the system is not running well or not tweaked/optimized) you may get crashes due to memory issues....
Due to some concerns over symptoms and crashes we could not reproduce, I have spent the last few days testing the game using the fill minors button. I make sure that all the teams have 105+ players, and the results have been that the game absolutely crawls for me. When I stop the sim I finally understand the people that have called for the optional save feature, as it takes almost a full minute to save a 2002 league - ouch .My advice to you is to seriously prune the minor league rosters of every club (including your own), down to even 12-15 players per level if possible. The AI will do a much better job giving you a game challenge when their minor league prospects do not have to wait in around-the-block lineups for playing time( ). The sims will also go much faster, saves will probably be so fast you won't even notice them, and you will get far fewer game crashes and other problems related to crashes. Keeping the ammy drafts to 5 or less rounds will also help for the same reasons stated above. I think this is probably wise advice for anyone that is having crash or speed issues with the game - good luck and I hope this is useful for you.
