Here's what might be called a design decision, although I believe its a bug. Actually, I'll mention two things. First, whenever there is a groundball that is thrown away, the game invariably scores it as a hit and an error. While sometimes this is the case, more often it is a two-base error and I believe this should be reflected in the game.
The second instance is earned run scoring. I've seen several times where there is a batter on first, a single, and the guy tries to advance to third and the outfielder throws the ball away so the guy scores. This is scored unearned, which may or may not be true. I believe it depends on whether or not he would have scored later in the inning. The problem is that the game also scores the batter's run as unearned if he comes around later, when it should be earned because he got on via the hit, not via the error.

Of course ruling the runner safe by the result of an error at the plate, assumes the runner would have been out had the throw been a good one... in that case the runners run is correctly scored unearned... the batters run is not, but you must take the error on the throw at the plate as a missing out in the recreation. (Currently I believe the game (incorrectly) scores all runs from base runners who advance because of an error as unearned.) What it comes down to is the game is trying to assign the runs as unearned or earned on the fly, rather than doing this at the end of the inning and reconstructing the inning without the errors (as is what an official scorer would do). I would assume the reasoning for doing this on the fly is that its much easier to do than have the game held up to determine the scoring by recreating the inning. Instead it seems to tag any player that reaches on or advances because of an error as unearned... and also anyone who comes up after the second out of the innning gets tagged as unearned (or so it seems) and the game proceeds from there. |

Another shameless plug for something I'd really like to see corrected:
]http://www.400softwarestudios.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=00058 0 Closely related, and wouldn't require "reconstructing of events". [ 05-10-2002, 05:57 PM: Message edited by: mtw ]
