Post Saving Bonds from Retirement

I traded for Bonds my first year of playing, and by the second Bonds notified me he was going to retire at the age of 38.

I do not foresee Bonds retiring in the next couple years in real life, especially since he is on a roll.

Is there a way to edit him so that he does not retire to a more probably age of 40 or 41?

Is he on the last year of his contract?.... whether he is or not, maybe if you offer an extention it will override the retirement...if you are determined to keep him, how about editing his age to a year younger, maybe that will do it too...

warefreak this Is the problem with any game that uses real players(And why some prefer Fanatsy Leagues).

To the game Bonds Is just some random player who's 38 years old. But to you he Is a player who will play to 40-41. This Is also the problem when people complain about trades(theres no way they'd trade away him..).

Untill till OOTP4 editor comes out I'm not sure theres anything you can do(other than changing his age...And I dont know If that would work).

Sorry I wasnt more help

I started in the 2001 season so Bonds was a free agent signee for me in the offseason following my first year. He sent me an email in 2004 that he was going to retire. At first I just was a little disappointed as he was just reaching 700 HR's. Sometime during that year I realized that it was also the last year of his contract. Now, I decided that I should just see if he would sign in extension so if he actually decides to play another year he will do with me. He did sign with me, but unfortunately his skills started to leave him that same year, soon after his 40th birthday. He did end up retiring anyway even with the contract extension. Luckily I only signed him to a one year extension. Hmm.. now that I'm thinking about it, I wonder, did he give me the money back?

Thanks for the help guys. It would just have been nice to have an option for early retirement, mid retirement or late retirement.

Ah but before you know it, A-Rod, Sosa, and Griffey will usually beat out Hanks' record in OOTP. Unless of course they suffer some serious down time, which can be easily arranged in the game... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

If a player says he's going to retire at the end of the season, it normally means you're going to see a rapid decline in his skills and he'll be useless by the end of the year anyway.

I don't know if this happens 100% of the time, but every player who has told me he was retiring has rapidly declined month-by-month through the season to the point of being a single A ballplayer.

Being a fair guy, if he were to ever break Hank's record really, I would shake his hand, and I *promise* there'd be no knife in the other one.

Is this the "Savings Bonds FOR Retirement"? thread...if so I have a few dollars lying around to invest...lol

I too have seen rapid decline in ratings once the player announces retirement.

Wonder what the latest age anybody has seen a player playing until?

Thanks for the help guys, i thought about editing his age but I kinda draw the line there as I do want to keep the game fairly realistic.

I kick myself cause I traded a very nice prospect, Wilson Betemit and Albie Lopez for him. Wilson Betemit turned out to be #2 or #3 shortstop in the league every year after that. He'll have 15 years of that... and i only got 2 years out of Barry. Oh well,

Knowledge = Knowledge + 1;

Amen to that. John Shuerholtz (or however you spell his name) needs to take a serious pay cut for that dumb@$$ move.

"I have an idea, I'll replace the guy with the second best ERA in the national league with one of the league leaders... in LOSING"

I could go on for ages about that man's stupid moves. At least he got Sheffield, but at the price of one of the best pitching prospects... oh well again

Of Course Julio franco was programmed into the game, but I think he was over 40. The first thing he did of course when I started the game was send me an email saying he was retiring

What affect does Jesse Orosco's age have in the game? I assume that the first thing, every time you start is a retirement letter from him.

What we need, in order to make some of these guys more realistic immitations of their real life counterparts, is the ability to edit the retirement age of a player. Can this be put in the next patch?

I agree, or in a competitor game I believe they put a stat about how fast a player deteriates after reaching his "prime". I think this would be nice also, or some equivalent at least... that way a player like Bonds can have a prime of 37 and then detoriate slowly till he gets to the point where he is released or retires at 40 or so.
