Crash when proceeding to next season

I'm getting an "illegal operation" error message when I try to proceed to the next year in my historical league. I back up the league after every season, but after 4-5 tries I'm still getting the illegal operation at the "processing free agents" stage every time. This is the 18th season of my league, and I haven't had any problems like this otherwise. Here's what I've tried so far:

1. Setting all teams to CPU and running auto manager.

2. Since the problem occured at the "processing free agents," I tried manually releasing all the free agents in the league before proceeding to the next season.

3. Restarting the computer (obviously).

Nothing works.

The only moderately unusual things that happened last season were that I tried to start a playoff game with too many players on my roster, and I also signed a contract extension after the playoffs- both of which seem pretty innocuous, but neither of which I had done before.

Any suggestions?

Have you added any teams via expansion?

No... nothing at all out of the ordinary, other than the two things I mentioned. I also tried reinstalling the game; that didn't work either.

After you re-installed the game did you try playing with a new league or the old league? It may be that something is wrong with your league file.

Also, how much RAM and free space do you have on your HD?

I imagine it does have something to do with the league file, since the game always crashes at the same point ("processing free agents"). Other leagues load up fine, though I haven't tried running any- it's the league that keeps crashing that I'm concerned about.

I have 32 MB RAM, 500 MB free space on the hard drive.

Also, I checked to make sure all 4 of the folders that are supposed to be in the league file are there.

Are you sure there are free agents in the pool?

Yes- plenty of free agents and free-agents-to-be at season's end.

League file may be corrupted..I'm not sure of any other options to tell you to try.
