Post C++ runtime error

I just finished simming the end of my leagues 3rd season. The file worked fine last night as I ended the season. For some reason... ALL coaches disappeared (it is still marked ENABLED on the setup screen). When I try to access the available coaches screen or advance to the next season, I get a program shutdown with the C++ runtime error message.

Any clue? Never had this happen before. The file was fine last night. Never had this happen before in 8 different leagues and about 100 simmed seasons, til now.

Several things to consider:

-Try rebooting your computer if you haven't and try again.
-How much RAM and free HD space do you have?

I have rebooted numerous times...even unplugging the cpu and replugging it in.

I have 320 MB RAM, and 1339 MB available on my HD (1.58 GB).

Again, I had no problems with the file until the end of the season. Also, my other league files are still working.

Thanks for any help.

No idea's from me except the old "checking to make sure the 4 directories are in the league file" - I suspect you've probably done this already though .

OK, stayed home from work today to try and straighten this out...

I removed my e-license and deleted the game. I then redownloaded the game (on a dialup...)and reinstalled it. I then went back to all my leagues and re-downloaded all the league files I needed.

Again, all the leagues work except for my main league..I continue to get the C++ error.

HELP!!! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Have you checked Killebrew's suggestion of making sure the league folder (leaguename.lg) has the following four folders in it? (BOX, EXPIMP, LOGOS, NEWS)

At any rate it sounds like a problem with that one league, what other details can you provide about that league?

Historical, Downloaded Roster set, settings? When did the coaches disappear? What exactly did you do? Things along that nature would be helpful to trying to determine the problem.

Scott, thanks for the attempt to help...

I am the commissioner of this particular league that is giving me fits. On Tuesday, I finished simming the postseason. I sim one day at a time. I then went into my league file and deleted the files in the Expimp file (the import rosters). The four files are still there.

After the sim, I closed the game and it saved. When I opened it yesterday afternoon (the first time I touched it since the sim), I zipped the file to upload it to the FTP site for my owners.

When I went back to the game to attempt to "Progress to Next Season", that is when I got the C++ error. I also noticed at this point that the coaches were gone.

Here is the full list of EVERY file in my league file...
BOX, EXPIMP, LOGOS, NEWS, COACHES.DAT, DRAFT.DAT, LEAGUE.DAT, PARK.DAT, PARKCONFIG.DAT, PLAYERS.DAT, RECORDS.DAT, RETIRED.DAT, SCHEDULE.DAT, SCOUTING, SPECIAL.DAT, SPRING.DAT, STORY.DAT, TEAMS.DAT, TEAMS2.DAT, TRADE.DAT.

I don't know why the teams2.dat file shows up. It does that after every sim.

Anyway, I've reinstalled the game; downloaded the file from our website (which I'm sure didn't help if that is the corruption problem) and still no luck.

Do the GM's send in their files to you in this league? If so, it could have been a corrupted file that someone sent. Not certain.

So all of the other leagues work? Have you tried getting another GM to send you their file and you send your's to them? Make sure if you send yours to them that they back their's up first incase it messes up the file.

Red face

Actually doing that right now with my Asst. Commish. He downloaded the zipped file from the website and had no problems with it.

Just another bit of info that may help...When I use the drop down menu for teams; some teams will open and others will not...for example when I click on Houston or Cleveland; they open up and I can see their roster screen. When I tried the Cubs or the A's, I again got the C++ error. I didn't try every team though.

Also, after the ALCS/NLCS sim and the World Series sim, I did input a couple of contracts so that would be the only thing different on my current file from what I originally zipped to the FTP file.

Are the teams you are receiving the lineups from using the current version of the league file?

Is it possible that there could be a problem or conflict from versions of the game that owners vs. you as the commish are using? Is it possible that team owners aren't using the current league file to update their teams and therefor maybe the export is having the problems. Also as was mentioned perhaps one of the teams have managed to corrupt the league file on you through their import...

Sounds like a problem on your PC if you are the only person having problems with the file. Try running scandisk - it fixes most minor harddrive problems caused by crashes. No idea if that suggestion is useful here, but it can't hurt. OOTP3 has been known to crash frequently for some users, and since it's a game that uses as much memory/system resources as it can that means crash effects are greater than for most progs. Running scandisk (I use Norton DD actually) has helped some users with these crash problems so give it a try if you have not already.

Thumbs down

Well, I tried scandisk but no luck there either. Finally I just got hold of an older file from my asst. commissioner and used that. Unfortunately it changed the history of the league as the final series' didn't turn out the same way but we'll just have to deal with that.

Glad this was my first major problem with the game...hopefully it's the last.
