Sound in v6?
Let me say first that I haven't downloaded yet, but...
I remember in OOTP5 that on some systems (including mine) that enabling in-game sounds would cause the game to freez/hang on the loading screen after the pre-game screen. Is this still an issue? Thanks. |

Yes. I cannot hear the "in game" sounds, but I still hear the clicks when I roll over a menu option. Clicking the (music note?) next to the - and + (which should be an x) in the upper right corner crashes my v6. I have to reboot the computer to get back into it. I had to turn sounds completely off in v5 to avoid this problem.
I run WinMe (yes I know) on a 1.5Ghz P4. I don't have a fancy sound card or video card, and the drivers were up to date as of late last year. |

Same thing here...
Running windows XP professional. OOTP menu sounds work but the "in game" sounds fail to initialize and the game crashes. This only happens when I click on the musical icon at the top of the game.

Having the same problem here...Win XP, basic SoundMAX digital audio card that came with my HP Pavilion system, with the latest DirectX and sound card drivers. Menu clicks work fine, in-game sounds crash the game.
Strangely enough, the in-game sound in V5 worked fine for me, so this is very odd.

I had the same freezing sound problems with v5.
I actually found out the game didnt "freeze" freeze on me ... even though Close Program showed that OOTP5 was "not responding" all I had to do was wait a minute and then it started up again. Course, this is kinda annoying so I just turned the sound off.

here's a weird one....
OOTP5 sound used to work for me, can remember for sure last year when I bought the game the sound was fine. formatted my hard drive around christmas time and when I reloaded the game the sound did not work anymore... tried everything to figure it out.... (audio settings, properties, ect....) now... OOTP6 sound does not work either... hell if I know....? wish someone could figure it out, the fact that it at one time worked on my PC tells me it can be addressed.... As mentioned elsewhere, sound does not work in V5 or V6 for me. Crashes the game, not necessarily right away, however it can be during a game, a sim, or even when an e-mail is received.

For whatever it's worth...
I can confirm that the work-around posted by GonzagaFan does indeed work in my case. It seems, in my case, the the problem is only when trying to initialize sound with the "note" icon from the manage/play interface. I had the same problem. What you have to do to fix it is go into game setup on the opening screen when to start the game. The sound is disabled, you just have to turn it on there.

I don't think that's the problem ricky j, as I remember enjoying the in-game sound last summer (I upgraded my video card at the time w/o a hitch). Then, for some inexplicable reason, I started having the same problem many others are experiencing. This a 4-yr old computer, WIN98, 550Mhz, 10 GB, AMD or whatever.
My laptop is WIN XP, 1Ghz, 20 GB, Intel with OOTP6 and it has the exact same problem. Did one of the OOTP5 patches tweak something that affected our audio playability? Is there a conflict between Winamp and WIN media player? I'm not too savvy on these things, so I'm just throwing out ideas, dumb or not. |

The problem isn't knowing how to turn the sound on. The problem is when you go into the game it freezes on initializing sounds. I have the exact same system as I did for OOTP5 and had no problem with in game sounds on v5. Now on v6 I don't get to have the in-game sounds .... It doesn't make the game unplayable, but it'd be nice to have

That is what my game was doing, freezing when I tried to intialize the sounds. But when I went into game setup and enabled the sound this fixed the problem for me
