this has got to be some sort of record

i found a game that went into extra innings. nothing unusual. philly finally won with a run in the bottom of the 54th

the hero of the game was hector figuera, who threw 41 innings with 115 strikouts on only 556 pitches (but 0-15 at the plate!). equally heroic was charles williams, going 40.1 innings with 91 strikouts

instant classic, i'd say

Here's a theory. As the pitcher becomes fatigued his stuff, movement etc. drops below zero and so the computer rolls this over to some number just under 256. The pitcher is now virtually unhittable and so just stays in forever. This probably would only be noticed in long games since normally a pither is replaced as soon as he goes red. But if the computer is out of pitchers it would leave them in.

A similar explanation might explain the new position bug where a poor player learns a new position and is given a rating of 248.

If you think 53 or 54 innings is amazing, I saw a post on another board where a guy claimed to have had a 198 inning game with these pitching lines:

4/15/2044, 326 Ks, Nicholas Mahlum (ORL), 196.1 IP, 7 HA, 3 ER, 2 BB
4/15/2044, 462 Ks, Jorge Orozco (MIN), 198.0 IP, 6 HA, 1 ER, 1 BB

I'd say the theory about the pitchers becoming unhittable has some merit. However, given the innings pitched, it doesn't look like the computer was out of pitchers for either team.

Here's the link to a pretty good OOTP6 thread on a Front Office Football board:

The error is easy to reproduce. Release all pitchers on two teams. Find one very bad pitcher for each team. I tried two 19 year olds with stuff ratings of about 8 and movement of 20 with low endurance. Start an exibition game and sim to the 9th inning. Then use intentional walks to ensure you are tied after the 9th inning. Then sim the rest of the game.

First try 617 innings. Second try 74 innings. Third try crash to desktop. On the forth try I hit the jackpot!! 2956 innings!!.

Pitcher one: 2956.1 IP, 67 hits, 10 BB, 5966 K.

Pither two: 2957 IP, 29 Hits, 8 BB, 7946 K.

Definately a bug. But kind of a fun one.

It appears that this is fixed in 6.01 as I can no longer reproduce the error. Thanks.
