Teams signing/trading for players, then releasing them within a week
I'm in my second OOTP 6 season and I've noticed this several times. I'm the king of dumping crappy players, and it seems like half the time when I do, the team I trade him to releases him within a week (which, in-turn, they have to eat his salary). I've seen this with trades I've made many times, but the worst thing is, now I'm seeing it in free agency.
38-year old Jose Mesa was signed on 2/12/05 to a 2-year deal with Arizona. 2 days later, he refused assignment off the 40-man roster and was released. On 2/17/05, he signed another free-agency deal worth slightly less than his original deal. Mesa makes out like a bandit, while Arizona was absolutely stupid for signing and releasing him in a 2-day period (plus, I think AZ had to eat Mesa's $2.5 million contract).
This is definitely a problem that needs addressed. Maybe teams are too willing to take players (either via FA or by trades) and then end up deciding they don't fit whatever needs they have at the time. This is a known issue, but I thought I'd post my observations.
