free agent or Arbitration

When reviewing a teams salary report and noting those for arbitration and possible free agents ---- signed the players that I felt I needed to ,,,, checked the arbitration eligible players and tried to sign the ones that were performing if they were not asking too much (or would get them back by arbitration) ...... but 2 of the players were listed as 5th year players and just as I feared --- lost them to free agency... the team salary report had said they were "arbitration" one did not like my organization , the other I signed but for more than he had asked for.

is this a bug ---- ???

I have noticed the exact same thing. This is definitely the case. I'm not sure what is causing the specific players to be listed as arbitration eligible when they are, in fact, free agent eligible (I would guess that it is a problem with service time).

Yes, it is due to the service time.

Do you know what the actual issue is sporr? I mean, is the game calculating different service time than the player salary report? That would make the most sense, but I'm curious if that is it or not.

Methinks that there is a slight problem with service time. A fellow tester suggested that since the default service time is 172 days while most baseball seasons are 180+ days, that some players may be accruing more than a year of service time each season causing problems when the game calculates eligibility. My guess is that one portion of the game is looking at seasons in the Majors while another is looking at the total accrued service time. My hope is that this will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Muchos gracias. In the meantime, I am going to advise my league member to ignore the salary report and assume that any player with 5 years experience is FA eligible.

That is what I have done with my 2 player league .

It cost my friend a pretty good pitcher.

I just got to the end of my first season in v6 using the default league. I played all games through April and May, and simmed weekly from June on. I noted that my setup man was projected to get $1.15M in arbitration. I was hoping to sign the arbitation-eligible players to smaller contracts, but none of them bit. I had a 2B complain that he wasn't happy with his playing time and wanted to "test the market". He's a fa at the end of this season, and he lost a lot of time for being on the DL the first two months. His backup ended up being better than expected so he got the starting job.

The setup man entered his 6th year of service the second week in September. After the regular season ended, I went to sign the 2B and noticed my setup man free agent eligible. Crap. So instead of getting him for $1.15M, I signed him to a 4 year extension worth $3.45M. The 2B is still ticked about his playing time. Put $20M as the amount and the options disappear, as if he hung up the phone on me.

Gotta love these new features!

I signed Nomar to a contract of 8.5 million for 4 years. But then at the end of the season, he was listed as a Free Agent! heres the funny side to this...HE SIGNED WITH THE NEW YORK YANKEES!

Jeter was traded to Chicago White Sox for Estaban Loaiza before the deadline.
