The future hopes of OOTP
The one remark that Mr. Vaughn made I kinda found interesting.
He says that Markus has complete control over his product. Markus decides what features go in, and he decides how he wants to support his product. Then in a kind of contradiction he says that we have tended to turn a blind eye while Markus has worked on his final patch here in house on OOTP6... Okay so it seems that while Markus is said to have complete control over his product. He doesn't have complete control on OOTP6 as far as working hours. Fair enough. After all he is working for SI now and he does have to produce. The shame of it is that with Markus working on OOTP 7 at SI, and putting all of his creative juices into that. I would imagine he may be a little burnt out to come home and start working on OOTP 6 too much. Hopefully he can find the energy and time to do so. However I really do believe that Markus will need to use the SI engine to really make OOTP, the type of game we have all been asking for. It seems that Markus had designed some of the game with too many limitations. Such as the rollover problems when reaching certain stats. Like the 255 RBI, then it resetting to 1 again. Or the 25 year career limitation. Or the limitation on how many divisions we can create. How many teams are allowed in each division. Along with other limitations that the OOTP engine has. Hopefully the SI engine will allow the OOTP design to be created with expandability in mind. So we can have an OOTP without such limitations, or at the very least more flexible. Hopefully the SI engine will allow for many great and varied play results. With more and varied rare plays. Greater news stories, better financial engine, waivers working correctly, customized reports, etc..etc... The whole 9 yards. I really don't know how much more Markus can do with this OOTP6 engine. Although he most likely can/will try to fix as much as he can. Still my main wish is that while Markus is in his creative phase for designing OOTP 7. That he will keep in mind to design the foundation of the game solidly, and to try and design the game as close to the real game as possible. With all the nuances, and atmosphere of managing and watching a game played out. Get the playing part right then, add all the other great features, one at a time and make sure they interact as good as possible, with the baseball universe that the game will create.

(1) Markus is working with SI on OOTP7/OOTP:FE/whatever, Markus retains sole owenership of his previous games and SI have no ownership of any of them. (2) Despite SI not having any revenue attachment to his previous products I've been allowing Markus to work on supporting them while he's here because I think its good for the games as a whole (both from the community aspect, but also because everything he does in the patches might help the new game also). (3) Markus has full control over the way the new game is created, he's the baseball expert I'm not - simple as that. (4) Design limitations - from my experience making soccer sims, its impossible to anticipate the evolution of a sim for various reasons. Not least because features are often driven by players of the game and might simply have not been originally conceived by the designer. I've spoken to Markus at length regarding his approach to coding and development and he has a very sensible and practical approach to creating his game engines, I'm sure that the new game will be flexible in structure and allow for a lot of evolution in the future. |

Marc,
I've seen you say "OOTP7/OOTP:FE/whatever" a couple of times. What does/would the 'FE' stand for?

"Eastside Hockey Manager : Franchise Edition" For this reason the original discussions with Markus used OOTP:FE as a working title ... as you're undoubtably aware working titles are made to be changed and EHM is now entitled "NHL EHM" so don't expect it to be a final title .... |

Marc Vaughan, I sincerely appreciate you being active on this board and trying to accommodate us with information and explanations.
It is a good sign to me. I hope it continues in the future as OOTPB becomes a part of the SI Family. |
