Issues with Arm Strength

I'm sure by this piont in time that everyone is aware of how drastically different arm strengths can be for any given player depending on whther they are in the IF, OF, or catching.

I'd like to have a smoother transition between the three, if at all possible. For instance, it doesn't seem all that sensible to me that a player who can hop up and fire a 120-foot bullet would have either an anemic or erratic (depending on how you look at it) arm in the outfield. Likewise, a thirdbaseman with a cannon for an arm should - in my mind's eye - have a solid, if unspectacular, outfield arm as well.

As it stands, only outfielders have what seem to me as sensible arm strengths across the board: pathetic as catchers because they have little clue about footwork, and once they even get it right, it would likely take far too long to get someone out at second base. Okay as infielders - a similar throwing motion, although some unfamiliarity with the body positioning would have an impact on performance.

Any thoughts?

Agree with you, Dan.

A strong arm is a strong arm...there is some adjustment for an infielder going to the outfield and vice-versa...but still if you have a strong arm, a change of position shouldn't matter that much.

OOTPB needs to look at outfield range, too. Same situation...excellent range is excellent range whether you play left, center or right...and fielding percentage should not vary as much as it does in the game in the case of outfielders. An outfielder with .970 in left field shouldn't be rated .990 at another outfield position. I always adjust things like this in my solo league to make them more realistic.
