News Bug Info
I know that this bug has been mentioned before, but nobody seems to have it narrowed down, specifically...
The bug I'm talking about makes news stories about Players of the Week / Month incomplete or missing some words, and fails to increment the player's award count (in Streaks / Records) or add the award to their player history. Sometimes it will say that the player has won the award for the "0th" time; most of the time the story will be missing some words, e.g. "The Western Division's best player of the week was He hit .364 with...". I had one or two players that this happened to every time they won an award... until they went to another team via free agency. So here's what I've figured out: This bug only happens to players from Team 1 (in League 1), EXCEPT that if the Batter of the Month has the bug, the Pitcher of the Month for that league also is affected by it. It is not a problem with the history file (pXXX.txt), because other news is recorded correctly, such as all-stars, injuries, and new contracts. Once a player is no longer on Team 1, their awards are recorded correctly. I'm still not sure if it's all players on Team 1 or just certain players (not many different people on a team win awards), but hopefully this info will help zero in on this and squash it in time for the October-ish update.

A bit more information...
One of my players that had this bug returned to Team 1 after six seasons elsewhere (where his news stories were fine), and the same thing is happening... "The Player of the Week award in the Western Division goes to Stephen was on fire, hitting..." So it must be a permanent quality of the player, probably set at initial creation.

i can confirm both your posts, league 1, team 1 and player was fine while away. it has happened to 2 diff hitters and 2 diff pitchers on the team.
when it comes to the monthly award, sometimes there is no news story/log at all, rather than just missing words or wrong words. but ive only seen missing and wrong words on the weekly award stories/logs. Last edited by disposableheros; 08-22-2004 at 11:22 PM. |

it is also not getting tallied in the respective "streaks and records" area of the players card.
is there any way to manually edit this info into the news area? and can the info be added to the career history box on the players card? |

btw Steve - it would have taken you just as long to type, "edit the player's text file in the LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder" but thanks for your help

more info on this bug
i was starting to go through all the past almanacs to add the previous winners and fix the news files and low and behold they are all there already and there are no typos or missing info. so it appears as though the problem only occurs during the current season and when the file flips to the next it is somehow fixed. i looked at all my previous almanacs, at each and every month. couldnt find a single instance of the problem. go figure. jmm, will you check a few of your past almanacs to see if this holds true? |

Well, I've been fixing my player's history files the whole time, so I can't tell you about that part... but my League News files still only show PoW, BotM and PotM for one league where the bug popped up, even in the Almanac.

more info
while fixing all the months for my current season (man what a hassle!) i noticed that the lnews file has the wrong day for all the offending months, ie. it says MONDAY 6/1/2007 when its supposed to say TUESDAY 6/1/2007. this day switch occurs on every single month that the problem happens and is always 1 day behind the actual day. i noticed that in the above example a PoW was awarded on MONDAY 5/31/2007 and then the May PoM happens the next day, 6/1/2007, but the entry also says MONDAY. maybe this is confusing the program? |

You're on to something this time, disposable.
![]() When this bug hits the monthly award winners, the day does not advance properly, at least when recorded in the lnews report. This doesn't happen when a weekly award is effected (example #1 below).
