3-D video driver problems

Hey, guys --

I have a vexing problem that has completely evaded my attempts to solve it. I'll explain & hopefully you can suggest a solution.

Last week, I had to take my PC into our univ.'s computer center, in order for a retail version of Symantec's Norton anti-virus program to be scrubbed from it & replaced with a corporate version that can be updated. Apparently, you can't just "remove" Norton anti-virus like you would any other program, because it sinks its tentacles VERY deeply into the Windows program registry. Anyway, before this "sanitizing" operation was performed, my 3-D driver games like OOTP6 were performing normally. After the operation, however, OOTP wouldn't run in 3-D mode and my other 3-D games wouldn't run at all! I have looked everywhere for the problem -- in dxdiag, for example, where the 3-D diagnostic showed that everything was just fine. I tried calling the computer center, and they couldn't help. So in my final hour of total desperation I turn to you to see if anything possibilities come to mind.

Obscure, huh? Can you offer a glimmer of hope?
Thanks

As far as OOTP goes the only difference the 3D setting makes is in some people having difficulty seeing the menus, etc. If you aren't having that problem then you don't need to worry about it from an OOTP concern.

Are you video drivers updated, graphics, color depth, etc.

Yes, I know it doesn't affect the play of OOTP, but I posed the question here in the hope that it might somehow prompt a suggestion for what happened. All the drivers are current, AFAIK.
What a pain this is!

My guess is whatever "sanitizing" is defined as at the Univ. Center, it probably removed anything that "looked like" a remenent of Norton. This is a bit ugly, but what I would do...

Remove the graphic card and let Windows set up the default onboard video, delete all the video card drivers for the graphic card. Reboot again, shut down, then reinstalled the graphic card per it's instructions - then go to the website and get the latest drivers.

That will almost for sure correct the issue unless your video card somehow conflicts with Norton (a VERY unlikely scenario).

Wow, you don't take half measures, do you?
But that sounds like a plan that could work.
Thanks, Henry!
