Weird elicense problem
I bought a new Dell XPS with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. When I go to the control panel, I can see the "elicense control" file, but if I click on it, it won't open. I used the uninstaller for elicense and re-installed it, but it still won't let me open the elicense file under control panel (although I can see the file, I can't open it to view contents). It's a strange problem. If I uninstall elicense and then open OOTP6, OOTP6 opens without asking for a license, and the elicense folder mysteriously re-appears, even after I have uninstalled it. Yet, I still cannot access the elicense folder to see my licensed games.
I have asked elicense support for help, but they are slow to respond and I get the sense they don't know the answer. Has anyone else had a similar problem without being able to access the "elicense control"? BKL Last edited by BKL; 02-04-2005 at 11:29 PM. |

Yes I have tried right clicking it. When you do that it gives you three options: open, explore, and create shortcut. None of them will allow you to open it. I do not know how long it has been this way. Its just really weird. I emailed Elicense, but I have not heard from them.

I wonder if this has something to do w/ SP-2? Can anyone w/ SP-2 "open" their elicense control panel? I don't have SP-2 and mine works fine.

It won't even let me do that. When I go to the eLicense Control menu, there's nothing in it. I should have OOTP6 and OOTP 2006. I want to reinstall my OS but I don't want to lose my licenses. However, I can't even find them on the machine so I seem to be an in impasse.

I got it. Turns out you can go to the folder the game is installed in and right click on the main .exe file and you'll get an eLicense context menu. Then you can select "Unlicense". Worked like a charm.

I'm trying to unlicense 6.5 and 2006 before I install my new hard drive. when i double click on elicense in the control panel, nothing happens - i hear a click and nothing opens. when i right click on the elicense and click open, nothing happens either. i tried potato's suggestion of right clicking the ootp2006.exe file to see if there was an elicense context sensitive menu but it wasn't there for me. looking at this thread, it seems like it's happened to others before. i'm running xp pro sp2 thanks for any help |

well the weird thing is that I went ahead and just installed my new hard drive, downloaded the demo and used my order ID/license on the new HD and it installed fine. wonder if it even got registered on the old hard drive and if that's why i couldn't pull it up on the control panel

I'm using XP SP 2, and I uninstalled the license for 6.5, but it won't let me uninstall the license for 6.02...I get a small dialogue box with the heading of "eLicense control" and a message of "Cannot Unlicense"
Anybody know how to fix this? Last edited by travisweaver; 07-25-2006 at 08:03 PM. |
