After being asked if I had this league hosted somewhere in the Aging/Dev thread, I realized that more people may be interested in using this league, so here it is.

The United Baseball Association

In the early 20th century, two new baseball leagues had plans of becoming rivals to major league baseball. In 1912, the United Baseball League played for about two months before going under. The Columbia League began play the same year, but didn't become a self-described "Major League" until they changed their name to the Federal League in 1914. But after the 1915 season, owners were essentially bought-out by MLB to become owners in their league.

But what if the Untied League didn't fail? What if some Federal League owners weren't "bought out" by MLB after the 1915 season?

The United Baseball Association imagines a world where the two failed leagues join in 1912 and succeed.

Teams

There United League and the Columbia League each have eight teams. At the end of the season, the winner of each league faces off in a best-of-nine contest for the Presidents Cup.

The United League consists of the following teams:

Boston Americans
Chicago Orphans
Cleveland Green Sox
Detroit Wolverines
New York Gothams
Philadelphia Keystones
Reading Reds
Washington Grays

The Columbia League consists of the following teams:

Baltimore Terrapins
Brooklyn Tip-Tops
Buffalo Blues
Chicago Whales
Kansas City Packers
Newark Peppers
Pittsburgh Rebels
St. Louis Terriers

Each team has a logo and uniform for FaceGen. Most of the uniforms are done by NoPepper (thanks!!!), although a few may be from other sources. There is also a named stadium for each team, but no custom stadium graphics.

Each team has two minor league affiliates (AAA and AA), but no custom graphics.

Settings

This is of course now YOUR universe, so you can obviously change whatever you'd like. But this is how the game is set-up in the quick-start.

Scouting off, Coaches on

Injuries are off, because I play FOOL style

Ratings 1-10

Custom Aging/Dev Settings

Personality and Morale off

65/33/1/1 Evaluation Settings

Trades are off, but I turn them on in the off-season

No DH

League Strategy, Financial Settings, and Total Modifiers and PCM's all update each year according to real-life. Therefore, you will experience the dead ball era up through the modern era.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I hope you enjoy!

news article

<Washington Nationals:team#1020> officials flanked <Jim Dye:player#5148> as he announced his retirement from pro baseball today. Rumors have had him on the verge of retirement since late last week but were not confirmed until today.
"I want to leave the game the way I came into it," said Dye. "I don't want to become an embarrassment to myself and the team."

The funny part is he retired on 4/16 and played in his 1st game 4/23 :)

Every player on a college or high school roster has a 5 Star Potential rating.....even if there potential ratings suck. The scouting report talks about how great they are even if there ratings on a 1-10 scale are 4/3/2/7/8 or something like that.

Any ideas?

But here's the question. If you had Cedric Benson, Michael Turner or even Julius Jones on your team...all down with varying injuries...who do you get to fill their spot?

Larry Johnson (who was dropped in most leagues but might be picked up in most by now)

Benson's previous backup. What's his name?

Justin Forsett? Seattle could be looking for a reason to give him J.Jones' job permanently...even if he does come back. Forsett can catch too...in an offense that has been forced to pretty much give up the running game most of the time.

Who else?

Most of the time it has been when I am exiting the game, but has happened a few times when saving while playing. It tends to happen during the closing database about 94%. It did corrupt a league of mine and I had to go through the backup to retrieve a previous save.

Any help would be great. I am afraid to save my games. I will upload the zip file of the corrupt league asap.

Tried searching, nothing came up at all. Strange...

Well, two scenarios I've run into today:

1) In my online league, we just hit free agency after the 2009 season and players are asking for a BOATLOAD of money. Guys like Orlando Cabrera asking for $25M+ per year. Sounds like these crazy demands will come down, which is good but I was curious to hear some feedback.

2) My solo-league, it's the exact opposite. I have guys like Vlad Guerrero only requesting $2.5M/year and even middle of the road guys like Ryan Freel, he starts his "demands" at $600,000.

How can I adjust these? I have salary info set at MLB quickstart default; so $16M for star players on down to $400,000 for league minimum.

What do I need to adjust here?

I was inspired by a post by OFG to find out when all my players retired. He told me they retired on two dates, the latter is covered in my almanacs, but the January 1st one isn't.

So, I went snooping and saw a retired.DAT file. Being cautious (I thought) I copied it to a new location so I couldn't mess with it. I opened it, and failed, I right clicked, and changed it to an Excel file...still failed. Now all the OOTP .DAT files are being recognized as Excel, not unknown, even though I only tried it on one, remotely placed file.

Question 1: These files seem to still work. Is it a problem that the computer thinks they are something they are not?

Question 2: How do I open these files?

3: If I get into the retired file, will it provide the year the player retired?

4: If 3 is no, how can I get this info without clicking on every retired player? I started in 1871 and am now in 1967, there are a lot of players.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help with any of these questions.

WTF? Playing a historic league, starting in 1969. All's well till we get to 1972... season 4. Suddenly, Earl Williams, my main catcher, is chucking every throw in sight into the outfield. Fine then. Let's try Ellie Hendricks, a real catcher (though with similar average-type catcher ratings to Williams). Second game in the lineup... 4 throwing errors. So I go with new draftee Rick Dempsey. First game in the lineup... throws into center.

Through 82 games, my catchers now have about 35 errors among them. Every time there's a SB attempt, it appears, we have a throwing error. This is insane. And of course it's killing the team.

Anybody have any idea why all my catchers are turning into Steve Sax/Chuck Knoblauch/Mackey Sasser?

That's right, one run, no earned runs. ERA of 0.00 (it's his first start of the year, btw).
That run is an earned run (batter got on base with a walk and then was scored by a double), but it somehow credited as an unearned run...and somehow is not even credited at all in the game log! Bug bug bug bug bug!

"One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning. EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases."

I decided to give all my GMs a bonus recently of a free prospect. These were supposed to all be the same, and so i wrote down all their internal ratings (from the edit screen) and simply edited the prospects all the same. However i've gotten a few that just aren't the same. This has happened on the Stuff potential for the Starting pitchers. All their pitches are the same, including their overall and potential. Their velocity is the same as well. Is there something that might be causing the difference in stuff between these prospects that i'm not taking into account?

thanks for the help

When we attempt to update the league in-game, we get this:

"Error: could not unpack files from archive. The original database files have been restored. Make sure that there are no write-protectd or opened files in your league folder and try again."

I see that there was a thread about the same thing in the OOTP9 tech support forums, but there was never anything resembling resolution.

And, yes, we're all on the same (latest) version.

I theorize that if somebody in the league still has an old file predating the last sim, that the commish could simply re-sim. Anybody else come across this, or anybody from OOTPDev have any ideas/fixes?
