I've decided to take a stab at it again, but using a different premise and style.

What if Cy Young were a 23 year old rookie in 2009?

I used OOTPX to create a standard modern day 2009 MLB league, but I haven't chosen a team yet. I'll take over whatever team signs Young. I then imported Cy Young at age 23 (renamed Denton Young to avoid conflicts with the retired player in the HoF) into the free agent pool. I had the game base his ratings on his peak seasons, which imports him into the game as a 3/10/10 potential pitcher, and he's currently at 3/10/9.

The reason I'm putting him into the free agent pool is I know he'd be drafted #1 by the Nationals if he were in the draft pool, so at least this way the choice of teams is totally in the game's control.

I've got the league setup as a standard MLB league with all 1-10 ratings, and the option of allowing ratings over 10 is turned on. Drug suspensions are on and injuries are set to current modern day. I left coaches and scouts turned on, with scouting set to normal accuracy.

The way I'm going to run this is that I'm going to let the AI manager run the team on a day to day basis, except for the days when Young pitches. I'm going to manage Young's games and I'll manage them just like any other current day MLB game is managed. He'll stay in as long as he's effective.

What could ruin this thing is how the new pitching model in OOTPX imported Young's ratings. While his potential is 3/10/10, his stamina is 11 and he's a 5 star prospect, his individual pitch ratings are very low. I'm going to assume that the game will treat it as he's just incredible at throwing those poor pitches, but we'll see what happens.

So can Cy Young win 512 games if he starts his career in 2009? Can he even win 300 games?

I don't know how often I'll update this thread, but I'll try to keep regular updates going. Well... I've got another dynasty going. This one's also historical, and I'm still the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Beaneaters/Doves/Braves/et al. I'm going to be posting in a much different fashion with this one, pretty much just posting when something interesting happens to pop up. I'm in the 10th year on this one, having started in 1901. I'm going to encourage the community to make requests for information on this one to keep it active, since my idea of interesting doesn't necessarily equal what everybody else finds interesting.

First off, the ground rules for this one.

I'm running it in commish mode and can't be fired.
I have a very deep feeder league setup, with 2 Subleagues and 10, 10-team divisions with random names in each subleague.
ReCalc is off
Players from the feeder leagues are competing with the historical players.
The amateur draft is 60 rounds
I'm only patched to 10.4.29 to this point.
Edit: I have patched to 10.4.31 now.

I am considering renaming the college feeder league teams in stages... I'm a U of Oregon fan, so the Pac-10 is likely to make an appearance in 1911.

Again, if anybody's got questions, favorite players they want looked up, who played 1B for Brooklyn in 1906, who was the number one pick in the draft, etc., please ask, and I'll post the answer for you.

This one will be going past the current season, so we'll even have some future baseball involved.

Note: All of my games in this dynasty are played using OOTP X with entirely fictional players in a modern-day MLB set-up with regards to divisions and participating clubs. I use fictional players to avoid getting TOO annoyed with weird career arcs, inaccurate real-life player results, and because I've always enjoyed the idea of a ficitional MLB universe since the days spend playing Whiffle Ball with my friends way back in the day. The style for this dynasty is borrowed from a dynasty known as "Major League Revisited" in Baseball Mogul Forums and I hope you enjoy it.

Following 4 straight losing seasons with little hope of relief in sight the Chicago White Sox have added longtime Oakland Athletics assistant Darren Anderson in an advisory role after a most successful tour of duty in Oakland that left the small-market A's stocked with viable players. This hiring comes on the heals of the White Sox finishing with the worst record in all of Major League baseball and a noted PR fued between Owner John C. Wilmington and General Manager Kevin Thomas.

"I'm looking forward to working with Mr. Thomas and the White Sox Organization," said Anderson on Wednesday. "and having more money to play around with definitely won't hurt either."

While General Manager Kevin Thomas remains in charge here; many speculate hes on the hot-seat as of this recent signing. However the White Sox have not expressed any desire to throw Kevin out the door despite rumors that the firing was imminent. The White Sox are coming off a 62-100 season and their 4th straight last place finish.

I decided it was time for a change with the same American Conference team winning the NABL title 4 or 5 times a decade. The North American Baseball League was beginning to deteriorate. By August of 1966 the league was already starting to fall apart and players were staring to get uneasy. The league began in 1908 and was running strong for years. But with the Boston Patriots seemingly running the league some of the fans saw it getting to be boring. From 1908 to the end of the 1966 the Boston Patriots ran wild and won 23 NABL league titles and 13 of them came from 1949-1966. On August 9, 1966 an English billionaire by the same of Mansel David invested money into the dying league for it to get revamped. After Boston defeated Indianapolis 4 games to 2 in the play-offs baseball took a 3 1/2 year hiatus and now in January of 1970 (our beginning point) the new Premier Baseball League is ready to begin. 30 teams are ready to fight for the rights to become the inaugural PBL Champions!

What I'm going to do is set up a league in 1969, Billy's first season as a big league manager, and setup all the managers and coaches of MLB at the time, all in their specific roles (including Billy as manager of the Twins). Then I will play out the seasons and post stats and stories here, with a slant on the maangerial staffs being front-and-center and the more "Billy-centric" storylines being the center storylines.

I'm still deciding how to deal with when Billy moves to different teams - whether to follow history, or to make it somewhat dependent on how the universe evolves, what jobs open up, and how "his" teams do).

It'll take a little bit to setup (mainly getting the managers and coaches set up).

The plan is to use recalc, have expansion occur historically and run in commissioner mode so that I have the flexibility to do what I need to do, but hoping to interfere as little as possible. I won't actually run any teams and will let the universe evolve on its own, with trades, free agency (when we get there), etc being run by the AI. Rookies will debut with their real-life teams for simplicity's sake.
