I was inspired by a post by OFG to find out when all my players retired. He told me they retired on two dates, the latter is covered in my almanacs, but the January 1st one isn't.

So, I went snooping and saw a retired.DAT file. Being cautious (I thought) I copied it to a new location so I couldn't mess with it. I opened it, and failed, I right clicked, and changed it to an Excel file...still failed. Now all the OOTP .DAT files are being recognized as Excel, not unknown, even though I only tried it on one, remotely placed file.

Question 1: These files seem to still work. Is it a problem that the computer thinks they are something they are not?

Question 2: How do I open these files?

3: If I get into the retired file, will it provide the year the player retired?

4: If 3 is no, how can I get this info without clicking on every retired player? I started in 1871 and am now in 1967, there are a lot of players.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help with any of these questions.

Sorry if this has already been asked.

I decided to give all my GMs a bonus recently of a free prospect. These were supposed to all be the same, and so i wrote down all their internal ratings (from the edit screen) and simply edited the prospects all the same. However i've gotten a few that just aren't the same. This has happened on the Stuff potential for the Starting pitchers. All their pitches are the same, including their overall and potential. Their velocity is the same as well. Is there something that might be causing the difference in stuff between these prospects that i'm not taking into account?

thanks for the help

and on 10/22, shouldnt it say series ties 3-3...

I mean you would have to actually go back and look up each score to ever see if someone came back from a 0-3 series since it changes every game.

Game 1 says NY Leads Series 4-3, WHY ???

I am getting ready to setup a historical league (starting in the 60s or 70s) and am curious about the minors.

So far I have found that if I don't have full minors, the players who are there get their stats out of whack (one guy gave up something like 45 hits in one week). But when you use full minors how do you know -- if you don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of every player ever -- which guys are the fillers (who can't be promoted -- I'm only allowing actual major leaguers to make it to the majors) from the legitimate guys? Obivously I can eyeball my roster and figure it out to some extent, but there could be guys on there I don't know about. I'd rather not have a ton of trial and error trying to call guys up. Is there a way to have the text of their names show up a different color or something?

Also, do you set it to just not have an amateur draft, to prevent teams from not picking the "right" guys?

I'm planning a league starting in the 1890s, and after some testing I want to increase the number of CGs in the first few decades (to increase starter wins and decrease saves) & slightly reduce SB totals in the 1890s. I'm guessing that to do so requires adjusting the 'Starting Pitcher Stamina' & 'Stolen Base Attempts' values in the Strategy page. However, I would like to edit it so that my revised values are implemented each year automatically instead of manually. I think these values are derived from the era_stats file, but I'm not sure exactly - would changing the CG% & SBAperRFB values alone do the trick? Thanks! :)

Hi- i just dl the demo last night and have been playing this nonstop (i'm getting addicted). before i take the plunge though there are a few things i want to figure out. first my goal is to play through history with the same teams and the same players though not necessarily the same players on the same teams (i want to see how what changes early on ends up effecting the longterm team finances). I want to start my league at some point in the 1800's. When i go to do this is automatically creates a second league. Why does it do this? Will there be an 1893 world series between these 2 leagues? Will teams change as time goes on until 1901 when the normal AL/NL existed?
