Perhaps there is a way to circumvent these from happening but I haven't found it....

first and foremost.... why does the game automatically increase my roster from 25 players to 35 or 40 or whatever it sees fit when I'm controlling a team and don't promote anyone myself?

it makes no sense.

and even worse is when it promotes someone that is out of options and then I go to put them back in AAA and it tells me they have to clear waivers.

when I'm controlling a team the AI should have NO control over it and shouldn't be messing with the rosters.

please fix that.

and then second.... there should be a way to tell the computer that you're not interested in receiving trade offers from them. I know when I want to make a trade and if I'm 'quickly' trying to move through seasons (sometimes I just play to mess around) then I don't want to have to stop every 5 seconds to dismiss another idiotic trade attempt from the computer (and I thought player to player trades were bad - but the computer offers up some of the absolute dumbest trades I've ever seen).

anyway you should be able to toggle whether you want to receive trade offers or not.

if these 2 things can already be done I'm just not experienced enough to have found out how to do it... but if they're not then it would I believe be a HUGE upgrade to have it included next go around.

thanks,
Rich

Also, when a team wins a round in the playoffs. It would be interesting if there was a story on a team that missed the playoffs by one game or the team that is eliminated by the middle of July. I think it would add a little more depth.

Is there any way the arrows to go forward/back through the schedule can be put on the bottom, or somewhere away from the team record?

Nationalities:

There should a British nationality, allowing for the creation of a British league , in which the generated players based on league nationality would be of the home nations.

There should an EU nationality, like above , the generated players would be based on the EU nations.

Editing:

It should be allowed to 'bulk edit' an entire team, changing for example the nationality of all players, re-generating names, etc.

World database:

There are some absolutely crazy things in there, like the Mongolia having a 'fair' ranking in their baseball structure...

Fictional Players:

When generating players, the team nationality should be taken onto account.

Standard Leagues:

There are some 'standard leagues' to serve as basis, the Mexican and the Taiwan have wrong structures.

Logo generation:

There should be a box were we could select the deisgn from the ones available.

(will keep this updated as I think in more things)

This is one of the very few reasons why I have trouble playing OOTP in a solo league, which I'd love to really do. I just feel this and a few other things regarding the difficulty (or ease) of the AI make the game a bit too easy or not true to life.

It is just a game so I know it's tough to be critical to the point of perfection when trying to mirror true life, but it seems that changing the way an AI GM handles vets during the deadline wouldn't be too difficult.

Suggestions to Help Fix Fan Interst

The Fan Interest function has great potential and is so close to doing what it is meant to do, yet so far away at the same time.

1) Now that we have the option to non-tender players (not offer arbitration) and take a FI hit if they leave, we should get a FI bump if we offer them arbitration and keep them in the organization.
2) Why are teams punished with FI hits when a player leaves via free agency because they will not listen to offers and want to test the market? Shouldn't fans be upset at the player for wanting to leave and not the team (who cannot keep him if they wanted)? Please eliminate FI hits when a player leaves by choice (won't listen to contract extension offers)
3) Have FI tied into things like how many games a player has played with a club and his rankings on the league/team leaderboards instead of his ratings.

Another thing that could be done (though it would be a big change) would be to add a Fan Trust (or whatever you want to call it) rating. All the Fan Trust rating would do is determine how quickly the Fan Interest rating raises/lowers; like Fan Loyalty but more fluid. Also, only let Fan Interest drop during the regular season, except in extreme cases.

When a player is signed, traded, or cut the Fan Trust rating is what is affected (not the Fan Interest). So, you trade your All-Star center fielder and let your aging veteran pitcher walk; the fans are not happy with the moves and your Fan Trust rating goes down. With a low Trust rating, FI would drop more quickly when losing and it would take longer to increase FI when winning. Winning/losing would affect the Trust rating, but not as much as it affects Fan Interest (fans are interested because you're winning, but wary that you will soon do something to muck it up).

Normally the Fan Interest would only go up/down during the season, but it could change in extreme cases. If your Trust rating is 100, any positive points from transactions would be transferred to Fan Interst; conversely, if your rating is 1, any negative points from transactions would be transferred to your Fan Interest as well.

This could make Fan Interest less fluid, thus making attendance less fluid, more closely mirroring real life.

I was thinking that it would be pretty cool to assign each team a background to be used with facegen. It could be implemented on the stadium screen and if left blank then a random background would be used for the facegen created players otherwise the background file selected will be the background.

1 On the main team page, there are rankings of where the team ranks in each stat category compared to the rest of the league. If the team is tied with another team, it will say something like "tied for 15th in NL" which will carry onto the next line and look messy. I've attached a screenshot below....

Instead of using the "tied for 15th in NL", the text could be something like "15th (Tie) in NL" and fit onto one line - thus, looking much more professional.

2. On the player profile report in the Status box, there is a record of where the player was drafted. However, if the player was drafted in a Supplemental Round, they are listed as if they were drafted in the same spot in the normal round.

In the example below, Jose Lopez was drafted with the 1st pick in the Supplemental First Round (31st overall), but in his Status box he's listed as being drafted with the 1st pick in Round 1 (1st overall).....

Player Report for #58 Jose Lopez

For the Status box, you could treat Supplemental Rounds as if they're just a continuation of the regular round. So for the example above, Jose Lopez's Status box would say: "Drafted 2003, 31st Pick in Round 1".

This interview was posted, after star 1B Andy Walt hit his 600th career home run in the POTD league:
"As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone. I was happy to move on. Now I can go and have some fun. It is a weight lifted off my shoulders," Walt told the press. He admitted just how much pressure he had been feeling. "Especially every time you'd get out of the hotel, everybody would say, 'Hey, when are you going to hit it?'"

I think this is extremely boring, it's so incredibly cliched, what's the point of having it?
I think the whole focus of the automatically generated news articles should be humorous... I mean, it's not real, so at least it should be extremely silly, otherwise why would anyone want to read it?
So, really I think you guys should shift the focus of the game-generated news articles to humour. Maybe if some people are so uptight and retarded that they want to read these ridiculously bland articles, then make it an option you can turn off: Silly news articles: on or off... there...
I mean, there's already a little bit of it, with the silly injury reports like when a player hurts himself while chasing after his girlfriend on a beach... I think that's good, but there should be loads more, it should be all over the place... there should be not a single serious news article...
like, 600th career home runs and the player will say something like oh yea, but really my life's dream was to be an accountant, or anything really absurd
or like a player signs with a new team during the winter and the GM will say "well, we really were hoping to sign someone better, but he was the only one we could afford, I guess we'll just have to bear with him..." or the player will say like "the GM drugged me and next thing I knew I was in the hotel spa wearing a jockstrap on my head and a copy of the signed contract in my butt..." of course it doesn't have to be exactly like that, but you get the idea...
I just think the news articles are an unused value slot, so you need to plug some value in there...
I guess it would be hard to get someone to write all that stuff for you with quality, but you could always take contributions from the forum here and make your selection, I'm sure there's enough silly people to write a few hundred thousand words of gibberish...
I am imagining also a parody of Scott Boras making appearances in the news articles...

When I was looking over the screenshots for OOTP10 I saw this:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/joom...ry_ootp/s5.jpg

..and was hoping that was what the screen would look like when watching replays. But it seems you only get all that info when playing out games. It doesn't look like the replay watching has been touched at all.

There's a lot of unused space and it's just really boring to watch the replays, which I think is a great way to follow your team if you're not playing out every game.

Instead you get this boring screen:

OOTP Baseball Manual - Watching Replays

The blank spot on the bottom left should be used to show stats of the pitcher/batter at least.

If some of you have read my last few posts, you'll know that I took a pretty lengthy break from OOTP over the past few years, pretty much jumping from OOTP7 to OOTP10. That being said, I must commend the developers for improving what I considered some shortcomings in the PBP descriptions. For example, I believe I was not the only one to point out once upon a time that there seemed to be not enough "easy" line-drive base hits. Everything was either just over an infielder's glove or falling right in front of a charging outfielder. And this is certainly no longer the case. I'm very impressed with how far the PBP has come.

I still believe there is a bit of room for improvement, particularly when doubles are hit into the gap. It seems to me that the PBP description focuses too much on the fielder's perspective, if that makes sense. It doesn't seem like there are enough for-sure doubles hit into the gaps. On every one, I'm left holding my breath for a second as the outfielder turns and races back to the fence, slows up at the warning track, puts up his glove, and then it's over his head, etc.

I'd like to see more frequent descriptions of, for example, "That ball is shot into the right-center field gap. No one is going to get that one! It's down and rolling to the wall!"

Or maybe, "A drive into the gap. It's going to split 'em!"

Just so we're not left with a suspense-filled play on every gap double.
