I have been following the new league announcements for a while now, I have watched several new leagues start, Several call for new GM's and I assume several wilt away...

I have not made the jump to OOTP X yet (well because it was something I could not get budgeted in yet) but I have also seen the issues that have been creeping in with the updates for 10 which has caused it seems some issues in the online community

My question really has to do with what everyone is doing ? I know that once the new version comes out everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and be the first league to have a new version site up. Others follow and older versions get lost in the shuffle

I have put together a league (and what I think is an awesome site for it) using OOTP 8 (why you ask - well firstly because it was the last one I could upgrade to and since 10 is out there is no reason to buy 9 and secondly - Since 8 was released as free, I was hoping to also catch some "new" players now that they could well "afford" to try it)

HOME (<------ Site)

But I have had NO takers, no requests for teams, no anything - I have had a lot of hits but no one wanting to take a team.......

So to get finally to the question... does it make a difference if I move this league to X ? Would I suddenly get more managers than I could handle OR is it just that managers are not out there anymore ??? I can remember it the days of 6, 6.5, 2007 & 2008 - You could advertise crap and get a boatload of takers - Now you try and get nada...

Any Thoughts

Alright, so I want to run an idea by you guys, let me know if this is a good idea and something that is worth attempting (I am posting it here instead of in the league forum, because I am not looking for people to join yet, I am merely trying to see if this is feasible or not).

The premise of the league is a promotion/relegation league that takes place in the United States. I know that the EAB/WBH does this, and they run great leagues, but I was hoping to get something started that was similar. The top league is a league that encompasses the whole country taking teams from everywhere (equivalent to the majors I guess). Then the bottom two leagues (where teams will be promoted from and demoted to) are leagues that runs out of one state. For example one could be the Garden State League (NJ) or the Florida League. Their goal is to finish in the top 2 or 4 (still deciding on how many promotions/relegations to do - I am leaning to 4 to keep it fresh) to get into the all encompassing American League. There will be no "playoffs" as the winners from each league will be crowned champs, but I was thinking about doing a league wide playoff. I was planning on starting out with 3 8-team leagues (One Major Two Minor) and go from there, with placement being based on first come first serve. As for the nuts and bolts, this is obviously going to be a fictional league. I was hoping to do it with just potential ratings being seen and scouts on. Inaugural Draft to fill up the minors, and a salary cap of $90,000,000, with budgets turned off.

What do you think, is this something feasible? If it is feasible, is it something that people will want to join? Now all the hosting/forum stuff will be handled by me, so that isn't going to be a problem.

What may be an issue is that I have never ran an online league before, so I would be looking for an experienced co-commish to help guide me/the league along the way.

So I ask you, the great OOTP commishes, is this something worth exploring?

The CDL online league is trying to troubleshoot an issue one of it's teams has had since moving to Patches 4 and 5. The issue is 0 KB size exports.

The game import error is 'wrong game version' but I'm sure that is just the default error message if the export file is there but cannot be read by the game. The owner in question says his export is 70+ KB in size on his hard drive, so I am thinking he has a path issue of some kind. He tells the game to upload his export, and the game tries to upload his export, but from the wrong folder. It seems to me it is quite possible the game will send a file even if that file does not exist in that directory, so that might explain this.

Has anyone else ever had issues with 0 KB size export files? If so, what caused it and how did you solve the issue?

We had a problem with aloof managers not protecting players from the rule 5 draft and many of those players a team can afford to lose. I imagine this is going to be a bloody disaster with many very good young players going to free agency because they haven't been offered arbitration. Is the only option really to disable arbitration completely?

Thanks to Corsairs who found this issue (I don't want to steal his credit), he noticed that the checkbox to only include updated images in the league file only works if you use OOTP to actually upload the file. Many commishes including myself choose to upload the league file outside of the game since it uploads much faster that way. If you choose to do it that way, ootp will choose to include -EVERY- image file in your league file since the last time you uploaded from within the game.

I have determined an effective way to handle this is to choose every so often (I do it once a week, but you can base it on what works best for you) to upload the file from within the game. Doing so takes longer, but it "resets" the image counter so to speak. From that point on, only images newer than that date will be included in the league file.

Effectively, my online leagues run 5 times a week, I choose to upload from within game once a week, and upload outside of the game the other 4 times.

This has helped me cut my online league in its 82nd season from ~120 MB down to a 17MB file once again.

I know for a fact this effects both OOTP9 and OOTPX, it might go back even further than that however (I have long since uninstalled older versions I am afraid)
