Note on Naming Conventions

Some of you may have discovered this already, but just a clarification on the naming format needed for logos/uniforms to update properly each year: if you have a logo/uniform that was only used in a single season, the correct format to use is, for example, boston_bruins_1948-1948.png, not boston_bruins_1948.png. If you do the latter, it'll get used as the default for all years after 1948 that don't fall into the year range of another file.

Another question about the naming conventions: do players that have accents/special characters in their names require them to be present in the name of the player picture? For example, Jérémy Roy's player picture does not show up in game, despite his player picture being present in the graphics folder. The .png file in the graphics files does not include the accents above the e's in his first name. Should I include them?

Use this spreadsheet with all player names currently used in FHM3 - they are exactly listed how they appear in-game.

Yeah, the file names' accents and special characters need to match the in-game names exactly.

Facegen file names with accents do not appear to be auto-loading. In fact, even with the proper accents, I'm finding that repeated clicks on auto-load just generate new random facegens, as though the filename could not be found.

OK, we'll see what's going wrong there. It's happening with all accent/special character players?

Hyphens don't seem to be an issue. Spaces in first names does, but if I recall correctly it did not affect last names. Characters such as é, ë, É, and other accents seem to be consistently an issue in either name. Give me a little time and I'll grab some specific players for context.

Test Case #1 - See the attached .fg file for Thomas Grégoire of the QMJHL Sherbrooke Phoenix. (Originally built with FaceGen Modeller Demo 3.12, then opened and re-saved in FaceGen Modeller 3.5.3 Free because while OOTP recognizes demo 3.12 files, FHM does not.)

STEAM version 3.0.74
1. Loaded FHM3 without an existing .fg file and default random generated face was shown for Thomas Grégoire.
2. Clicked on Picture>Auto-reload picture and a new random face was generated each time (likely because the file cannot be found)
3. Copied over the .fg file and clicked Picture>Auto-reload picture ... same result (which I expected)
4. Exited and restarted FHM3 and navigated to Thomas Grégoire player page in same saved game to find previously generated random facegen still showing.
5. Clicked Picture>Auto-reload picture several times, each with a new random face.
6. Clicked Picture>Import PhotoFit (Facegen) file and selected the attached Thomas_Grégoire_15_7_1998.fg file from the fg_files folder and a new random face was generated each time.
7. Clicked Picture>Import PhotoFit (Facegen) file and selected a different .fg file with no accents and the proper face associated with that .fg file appears properly.

It would appear from the above tests that the accented characters are not being recognized, so the filename selected is interpreted as not found. I will continue to perform additional tests to see if I can narrow the list of accented characters.

Add Ää, Öö, Øø and Åå in non-supported characters.

Anything more on this subject? Wondering if this is something that is in the works or if we'll have to make due with anglicizing and manually importing for the time being.

Did you create that spreadsheet yourself? Just askin' because I wanted to say thank you! I'm creating a package of player photos atm and the sheet proves to be a very valuable time saver. So thanks for creating it (or if not, thanks that you called my attention towards it)!

When working in the graphics folders, can the game access image files that are in folders if I want to organize a large amount of files?
