An FHM-based "role-playing" league

Hello!

I’ve posted a decent chunk of times in this particular forum so hopefully I’m not completely foreign to you guys.

We run a very different league that will be changing over to FHM. This is a customized, interactive, role-playing league that is primarily just to have fun and make friends. It is both much less and much more than leagues where you sign up to play games or manage your team. In our league, you sign up and live the life of a professional hockey player vicariously through FHM.

What that means is that you get to sign up as one player -- real name or alias is up to you. You sculpt your player in Mental, Physical, Offensive and Defensive attributes along with hundreds of other people!

That’s it! You just sign up, decide how you want to play, and you’re done. Then you will be drafted to a team and you can follow along with your new teammates from game to game, winning and losing with linemates and having fun and making friends. We will use FHM to simulate the games, then they’re posted and everyone uses those results to razz each other, brag, go for records, use them in storylines, and more! How you participate is really up to you, but the more you participate, the better your player gets.

We ran 6 very successful seasons with EHM, and we're starting all over for FHM's upcoming release. There are a few leagues of this nature around the internet, but none seem to be as active and passionate and healthy as ours, and that’s due to the awesome people who sign up to have some “escape from reality” fun. The plan is to use FHM (which we are very excited about) but we may be forced into a single short season of EHM. Hopefully not, though!

With this shift, we will be changing our name from ISHL (International Sim Hockey League) to BESL (Breakaway Elite Sim League). This is a new league with all sorts of opportunities, including running a team!. As we transition and wait for more updates to FHM things may seem a bit vague, but myself and my close friends have been running these leagues with hundreds of friendly guys for many, many years, so you can be sure we’ll do everything we can to make sure we help promote FHM through our league, and hopefully get some new people involved in a hockey community and for-kicks league.

i'm actually surprised we haven't had any of these FHMers come our way still.

this must seem too strange or confusing. that's the typical response, haha

Is this the NHL but populated by baord members or a totally fictional league with teams in random cities?

Fictional teams and identities - Milwaukee Wendigos, London Wolves, Mississauga Reds, Brooklyn Admirals and Montreal Bears in the North American conference, HK Kobram Riga, HC Viverna Kazan, Munich Reign, Stockholm Aeros and Manchester Revolution in the European conference. Adding Brisbane Clippers and another as-yet-unknown team next season for the re-branding to the BESL.

It's a great league, best thing I ever signed up to and always looking to improve itself. In the in-game world the NHL's a non-factor, it still exists but has been long overtaken as the world's best league. Interest and activity is always rewarded.

as matt said, full creative freedom is given to the "team owners" as long as their identities are professional, practical, and not tacky as hell.

From what I understand they sim a season and then go back to the old season developing the players based on criteria such as activity on boards and such I think is how it worked from a friend whos involved. There is much more criteria, but they have a draft for the new people and such

100% correct. Restart every new season.

I've been in a league like that before... or maybe even in that league, I can't remember. It was fun though! I just don't have the time to immerse myself into something like that right now.

assuming your name's matt, unless you're philbin, liff, or morrow, i don't think you've been with us!

i'm really hoping some more people find this to be an interesting idea if they are enthusiastic about FHM, especially if they are creative and would like the opportunity to design their own player and see how he operates

That does sound like an interesting thing to try, I'd most likely consider signing up for one of those leagues.

an excellent signup! i really like your player's balance.

once FHM is released you will be able to choose all of your player's attributes from an allotted "pool" of points. for now we will be simulating a few tournaments with an approximated player in EHM2007 so you can just get a feel for how things work.

basically -- the more you care or are concerned with your player, the more points you will have to spend later. as you can see, that forum is pretty active... people post a lot. we're very happy to have newcomers, so once you start to "figure it out" you will fit right in.

early on, i would say just look in the "boxscores" forum regularly for any threads titled "S7 Prospect Combine" cause any of those mean you are playing! if you reply to those threads we know you are following along and your player improves, and if you dont log in or post at all your player gets worse. it's pretty easy. you can also contribute in other ways, but you're better off asking other questions on our forum to "double dip" and get some posts in while getting the encouragement and advice of a bunch of other players, as well as getting yourself noticed for the upcoming draft.

i'm about to start a new tournament since you signed up, so you will be receiving a notice PM over on our site, as well.

This sounds awesome. I defiantly want to be a part of this. If its not to late I will create my player "profile" when I get home from work tonight.

Excellent. Anyone coming on board can be any position they want, but the league is always heavy in RW. That's no issue, though, cause we make it so RW are pretty proficient at LW, too. (So coaches can fit you in according to skill instead of position)

Right now we have these signups:

RW: 7
LW: 3
C: 3
LD: 1
RD: 0
G: 2

I'm actually not sure what is needed around the league, but with expansion coming, we're looking at needing all positions! Defenders are always slightly more sought-after, but that's just something to keep in mind, if we have 50 RW sign up I don't mind.
