International competitions - is it a definite "no" for version 1?

Everything sounds amazing so far, but I was a bit bummed out to read a few weeks back that international comps such as Olympics, World Juniors and World Championships may not make it into the initial version of FHM .

I was just wondering if this has been decided on as 100%? Or are you guys looking into the possibility on including them? If no, may I ask why? Is it a licensing issue or something?

Also, if not in version 1, is it something that may be added in the future?

Thanks again guys. Super pumped for the game. Take my money now, please.

I think it's a national team-structure issue than licensing. I requested too many times the WBC for OOTP but without avail.

It is.

OOTP as it stands now doesn't carry the concept of having multiple teams holding rights over a single player.

Without this feature, no international play is possible.

Shouldn't be that tricky. Since the game supports farm teams, it definitely can handle players playing for one team while being owned by another. So just let the game deal with the national team like modified farm team and it should work... So yeah, I don't expect it in this version, but I do expect it in the next one.

We should probably put a FAQ together for this sort of stuff. Yes, it's a definite "no," no international play this time. Not a licensing issue, just a time one. If we tried to include it now, it would mean neglecting and cutting things even more essential.

Well, the bookkeeping aspect of it is that simple, but there are other things to consider. Schedule conflicts, for one: some tournaments don't conflict with league play, but ones like the World Juniors and World Championships do. If there's an 18-year-old playing in the NHL who's eligible for the WJC's, how do you make him available? Does the decision start with his NHL team? If it does, how does the national team's AI make roster decisions about a player it may not be allowed to have? What about other professional leagues, do they get a veto on their 18-year-olds, too?

There are lots and lots of little questions like that. They all need to be resolved, coordinated, and coded for. It's just too much to take on in the first version. International play will be a very high priority next time around, but it's not happening now.

Can't say i'm not disappointed by that choice but i am thrilled to hear that it will be high on the list for the next version. That is good enough for me and i'll hold you to it Thanks for the response, i'm happier learning about it now then playing the game only to find out myself. It certainly is a feature that needs to be done right so sounds like you are making a good decision in the end. a FAQ sticky thread is a good idea.

I like to hear that you take it responsibly and rather delay the feature (and assign it high priority) than rush it. And of course the sooner we know it won't make it to the first version the better for us.
I also like the idea of FAQ.

When playing OOTP in commish mode I can move players from any team to any other team so It would be possible to have tournaments. It would need too be done manually(schedule, rosters) and must keep track of where players came from so they can be returned too their proper teams. This is something that I have -zero- interest.
