So...Is the league expansion removed from the game?

Is it? That was the only feature i looked forward to so if it is i would like a refund.

This is about the hockey game, so to answer the OP's question as precise as possible: No, expansion has not been removed because it was never put in FHM in the first place. They couldn't come up with a solution to create schedules from scratch. We don't know when, or if at all, there will be expansion in FHM.
You only have the scripted expansion in historical mode, but for that they have the real schedule. So that's that.

Given that a good schedule creation subroutine is not on the table yet, a decent fill-in, which would retain value after a schedule generator is up and running, would be the ability to import a hand (or 3rd party program) made schedule via XML, CSV or TXT file.

Can't the OOTP baseball schedules be converted to hockey schedules?

My assumption would be no, since hockey scheduling is very different from baseball scheduling, where you typically schedule 3- or 4-game series and have blocks of home and away games.

The schedules could be edited into 80-82-84 game schedules .

With OOTP schedule generator-you can schedule one game series,so that shouldn't be a problem. Then schedule the games 2 or 3 days apart.

NFL(32 team) schedule times 5 equals 80 game schedule. Schedule games 3 or 4 times a week and then you have a hockey schedule that was converted from a football schedule.

Well, that's a point of view isn't it? I know there was an expansion option in the earliest versions but it was greyed out. So they have removed it and nobody knows if it will come back? And still they have said that there is one more patch then they are going to start wokring on next years version? That is really bull****...

This is troubling. When I bought this game this was a feature Im looking forward to. These people are apparently not looking for returning customers.

hopefully i won't get into trouble for saying this, but it was a feature that they added to the private beta testing but was later removed again. It was glitchy and lead to crashes. It is a feature i was very much looking forward to as well but trust me when i say that it is worth waiting for to be implemented properly. There is no doubt the devs want this feature in the game, and i would be willing to bet that the second version will have it in and working wonderfully.

Sebastian and I just talked about this, we need to test a coúple of things while I'm here in Germany, but league expansion for the modern game in this version of FHM isn't dead yet. If we can make it work, it'll likely be in limited circumstances - e.g. only a one-time 2-team expansion, probably with default expansion teams whose name/location can be changed at the user's option - but the scheduler can work well enough in that situation to make expansion viable, if it's problem-free in other areas as well.

That is how Wolverine Studios did it in their Basketball game Draft Day Sports Pro Basketball. A one time expansion of two default teams (that could be edited) at the beginning of a season. Would be excellent if this worked

and from there then add the ability to delete teams too

To those who think just generating "one game series" schedules would be enough you're not taking into account traveling. That's always been a problem I had with OOTP schedule generator is it would put the Yankees in Tampa for a series, then Seattle, then Chicago, then LA. You can't do it that way in baseball, nor in hockey. The road trips need to make some sort of geographic sense, even considering that NHL teams make numerous long distance road trips per season.

Here's a related question though. Is it possible, maybe through editing the db or something, to move a team but not change the structure of the league? For example could I move Phoenix to Seattle or Columbus to Quebec?

Yes, you just have to set a new hometown for the team and rename the franchise via commissioner mode.

I will just add that, unless I'm mistaken, it has to be done in the off-season.

A one off expansion at the beginning of a season would be a good way to expand by two teams. That would allow the devs to create a way to generate a schedule for 32 teams.

Have a default team name, hometown etc for the two teams ... which can then be edited in the game.

Also an option to relocate teams in the off season rather than having to edit the team names etc would be great.

Thanks guys. And just a note to the developers, there are NHL schedule generators out there. Just do a google search for them. Maybe you could get one of those and integrate it into the game? Just a thought....

Is the only thing that is holding up expansion would be existing schedules for leagues that have more than 30 teams?
