I can understand not thinking you need to check that the backup is fine and so it is probably best to do that every once in awhile. But is there not some way to have the db automatically backup every night? You could still just check one every month, but even just losing a max of 1 month of contributions is too much to lose. If nightly is just to much for some reason, can you do weekly? EDIT: In another thread it sounds like they do have regular incremental backups, they just only have full backups once a month. So if they check to make sure those full backups work, I guess that's good enough.

While the forums were down but the main site was up, I noticed that you might have some security vulnerabilities. You might want to go over what you should have things set to in your ini file, like making sure errors are only logged not displayed. EDIT: I don't mean to freak anyone out. I just think it's a good time to look over these things to minimize the possibilities of something else bad happening.

Thanks for the sympathy, seb. I never wrote on the forum. All my stuff was always C&P from Word, so I have everything saved (in three different places, actually). According to what I can see so far, I've lost only the last 3 chapters, which I'll re-post when I get assurance that we're going foward with what I saw today. Unfortunately, the format I'm seeing is very confusing and lacks continuity.

As for the decision-making, I don't know enough about servers and websites to know what or who to blame. I just made sure Short Hop was not reliant upon someone else's system. Also, I lost about 60 posts, of which only about 20 were any good.

I have 2 outstanding issues following this server problem. PM'd TC, and he replied saying that others were suffering them, and that this thread was the place to document. Don't see them so far, so here they are:

1. I'm unable to create new threads. I initially get the Page Cannot Be Displayed message, then if I try to submit later, I get the "This is a duplicate of a thread you've already posted message."

2. The time is still totally off. All of the times shown on the boards are about 11 hours off. It sounds like this can be fixed by myself - anybody know how?

User CP > Edit Options > Scroll down to Time Zone Settings and pick one which corrects the time

No we are still rebuilding some things behind the scenes, and Search function isn't working. Andreas is working on the issues the forum still has. Please keep reporting the forum issues that you are still seeing. The search index is about 30 percent finished, and we will let you know when it is enabled.
