My concern that this is a one-trick pony, and that there won't be much gameplay.

I am all about the gameplay, and there doesn't appear to be a lot of it.

I think much of the delay has been turning this unique concept into actual gameplay. Should be interesting to see how it turns out.

I don't understand why anyone would want to buy the editor. The whole idea is to evolve your creature. Using the editor to create the finished product seems silly. You start as a single cell creature, what good is a fully developed animal that you created with the editor?

I think there are a lot of people who will be doing that simply because they can't resist checking it out. Esp if you have been a big Spore fanatic in waiting for a few years.

I won't be buying it but I am sure many will.

In fairness to the game, if there's one thing Sid Meier can do well, it's make a game that is fun to play.

I didnt know Sid Meier was involved in this game. I knew Will Wright was.

Meier has nothing to do with the game. Will Wright is behind it. The man is only second to Sid Meier in the legend stakes IMO. (Not sure where I'd put Peter Molyneux. Back in the 90's Molyneux would have been ahead of Wright IMO.)

I am confident the game will be good. The one thing that irks me is it means supporting bastarding Electronic Arts. My hatred for EA may very well wind up outweighing my desire for the game.

I got Will Wright and Sid Meier mixed up. For obvious reasons.

Molyneux is like the exact opposite of Wright and Meier. Wright and Meier have this knack for making boring sounding things like train travel and building cities and running somebody's life into fun, highly replayable games. Molyneux has a knack for coming up with really cool ideas that are, generally speaking, less than the sum of their parts.

Chris Sawyer I thought did a good job with that with the Rollercoaster Tycoon series. I never would have thought that I would enjoy that game.

I think Spore is going to end up being one of the biggest failures in the history of computer games. Which is a shame since PC gaming needs a boost in the arm since consoles are getting most of the attention.

But considering how long it has taken to get the game released and compared to the hideous amount of hype that has been attributed to the game right from day one, it's hard to see how it has a chance to come even slightly close to the expectations for it.

This game has all the conditions to be a colossal failure and odds say that's whats going to happen.

Eh, The Sims was super-hyped vaporware for a number of years and it turned out all right. I think you have a point that with all the hype, it's pretty much got to be the Game of the Year in order to avoid people calling it a disappointment.
