OOTP 2007 will stay at ootpbaseball.net for now, and OOTP 8 will get it's own website at ootpdevelopments.com/ootp

as someone who did not make a move from FPS baseball '98 until something/someone got it right, the news that SI was joining OOTP was perfection. championship manager (and now football manager) is the single greatest game franchise, period. i just knew that even a slice of their input would put OOTP over the top, and i was obviously correct. OOTP 2007 is the baseball game that we have all been waiting for. puresim tried to be 'that game', but really dropped the ball. baseball mogul is a terrible joke of a poor attempt at being a 'CM' type game. OOTP 2007 is the schitz.
now, we have OOTP 2007 in our hands. that can't ever go away. should things regress to pre-2006, then c'est la vie. if further genius SI-like input continues, then bring it on. my personal wish would be for OOTP to move in the direction that football manager has, and make the personality/press/negotiation aspect even more full-blown. the baseball game details have already been nailed. what's left other than developing the behind the scenes stuff moreso. |

Obviously there was something about the merger that wasn't working out, and I would rather see Markus part ways than continue with something that wasn't working out. But I think SI has been great.

Markus could spend an eternity trying to get every nuance of the game perfect and never reach perfection. I don't think it can ever be totally nailed. But I think it's close enough at this point that some of the energy can be (and has been) put into the areas of the game that create a more immersive world, like player personalities, media, etc. I've always wanted to see more of that in the game. My ideal game is something like an RPG in which you play the role of a GM or a commissioner. That means dealing with a lot of non-baseball stuff.

Got my newsletter on 9/24 at 12:21 PM EST. I am pretty sure I could have walked to Germany (nevermind mind that Atlantic Ocean thing) and heard the news directly from Markus.
Marc Duffy, its been real. You are now officially converted from employee to fan off OOTP. Please feel free to venture over to the off topic forum if you dare. ![]()

Suddenly got a newsletter after 18 months of inactivity.
Never made the move to SI/Sega, still believe OOTP 5 is the best version. Hope we will see more independent programming again ![]()

On a side note Marc, I was there for the first versions of CM, I played it 24x7 but really stopped when things became too complicated and when the Collyer brothers split etc.

The Collyer brothers never split, they are still here and VERY much part of Sports Interactive.
It was Sports Interactive as a whole who split with Eidos, took the code and database, and (re)created Football Manager |

Then if that's true Marc, can you explain this from 2001?

Oh, it is. Telling Alex Ferguson that you're looking forward to destroying his side's title chances - and then doing so, despite his angry response - is very gratifying. Or when a world class player is delighted that you've signed a new contract, or a wonderkid is looking forward to learning from you, etc. Small stuff, but adds nicely to the game.

And the mind games are great fun in FM. Sticking the knife in after you've just beaten a superior opponent, and finding out several members of your squad love you for it. ![]() |

One good thing about OOTP is that it is available on digital download worldwide where as FM appears to be completely lacking in that feature in its big markets. They intimate at v8.0.1 of FM being available for DD but just vague in where it will be available.
I can't see Markus forcing people to buy a boxed copy because it can be boxed.
