I do wonder what this means for OOTP in terms of it's Competition now,Because Sullivan Originally did Puresim, which is a very respectable Sim Game, and the Only other Competition really is BM.

The Reason I wonder this now is being a owner of Wolverine Studios DDS:CB I can tell you that game is pretty darn good, and good looking too,and now Sullivan can really take his Puresim Title and give it that extra Wolverine Studios touch, which does instictively make me wonder how the new OOTP will be in Comparison to what WS is planning to do.

I must say as I see it that this will make things interesting for OOTP as well, and it will be interesting to see how the devlopers here will respond and step up to this bit of news,as far as OOTP 9 is concerned.

Gary,I did happen to notice the fact that the name of the new game will be DDS:Baseball not "Pro Baseball" or "College Baseball" or even "Minor League Baseball" like WS's other titles have,so I do wonder if this new game will have the ability for you to have your choice of these,or if it will just be "Pro Baseball"

To Keep this Releated to OOTP though it will definatley interesting to see how everything plays out as far as what the devlopers do here to make OOTP 9 step up.

Believe this or not. On Saturday I bought DDS PB for my son. I also have TPG2. While looking at the basketball game I thought, "why does Markus not join up with Wolverine"? I almost posted a thread on it. Weird

Funny, I was thinking the other day that this is really the first time I haven't cared much about an OOTPB release. Main reason - I am enjoying OOTPB 2007 enough that OOTPB 9 will be purchased whenever I get around to it. I really haven't seen much that gets me excited about OOTPB 9 from an online league perspective and that's how I play the game.

I have much less interest in any other baseball product. If Shaun adds some sort of graphics fanciness it may get me to download a demo. Otherwise, I doubt he'll come close to OOTPB for what I want in my baseball games.

I agree Chris, now that I have my league set up the way I want(playing real teams etc.. with fictional players) I am really enjoying OOTP on an incredible level. OOTP8 is such a great game, that I'm not even worried about OOTP 9 yet. I will surely get it, but I don't feel there are sooo many pressing issues now that I can't wait for the next incarnation of the series. Do you think that's why there is so little hype this year? because everyone is busy off playing the game rather than hoping and wanting a new one?

I like pure sim quite a bit

I like the Wolverine games as well

I play OOTP more than all other games I have combined.

I do think competition is good, and I will almost certainly purchase DDS Baseball - I would be very surprised if it bypassed OOTP as my primary game.

Congrats on the addition Gary .... IMO Gary is a class act and deserves all the best. That said I won't buy DD Sports Baseball. I tried Pure Sim and liked it but not as much as OOTP.

IMO this will not be anything close to "big competition."

But any competition is good, and I wish them success and good luck.

And the answer is: OOTP will be better by far.

Why? Because Shaun never really got behind customization, and that's what makes OOTP the best.

You may have a point there, but I still would watch out for this new game because basically they are taking Sullivan's Puresim code and giving it that WS touch, that I predict just based alone on DDS: CB as a example of making it a much better game than puresim 2007 was.

For this reason I don't think we can really judge what he is going to make until we actually see the finished product.

Yeah, for all those saying this still won't be much competition for OOTP, I think you might be underestimating how many people want to like OOTP, but just can't due to its interface. Put a Wolverine Studios interface on PureSim, let Shaun put all his effort on under the hood stuff, and I think you might just be surprised at how good a product this could be. While their first release probably won't be as good as OOTP under the hood, I think I'd be willing to bet their interface will be better which should attract a lot of people who would like OOTP, but are turned off by its somewhat complex interface. At least this should put Shaun's game, where IMO it rightly deserves to be, ahead of BM.

Major congrats, guys. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

No Doubt his game is going to be ahead of BM,BM pales in comparison to both OOTP and what this new game will be alone.

I wouldn't say OOTP's interface is bad though it is pretty good IMO,however I will say that Sullivan finally does have a chance to really work magic with his Puresim game.

one of two things I like OOTP over the current Puresim is the abiility to see every pitch in Play by play, that and the fact it has split season Playoff format Avalible as well (I like that for my small leagues that I create)

Puresim is a good game. I like it. I like OOTP too. Im looking forward to seeing what they can do. Im sure Ill get both.

Shaun came out of his semi-retirement already and released a patch a few days ago. That brought the game up to version 1.71 (after going through versions 1.70, 1.70b,c,d,e,f,g,and h) and added supposrt for the 2007 stats in the Lahman DB, tweaked some importing algoriths, added a 40 man roster size, and a few other tweaks. Its certainly not as sophisticated, with less options than OOTP though, although if you know VB, or C# you can created some add-ins for some extra stat-tracking.

I play in an online Puresim league and aside from a few offseason money quirks having to do with free agents, its been great. Very easy to do and very enjoyable from an owners point of view.

I spend more time with my historical leagues using OOTP

This has an easy answer, if we named it DDS:Pro Baseball, it would have the same initials than the current pro basketball game: DDS:PB, so instead it will be named DDS:BB

Wish him luck, but this is no competition for OOTP. Not even close.

I'm one of the people who hates the current OOTP interface big time, and I also think that this new game still won't be much competition for OOTP.

It's all about the options.

Competition

Sure didnt take long for the Draft Day Sports BB thread announcing Shaun Sullivans move there to get closed.... Guess there is some worry about those of us disillusioned with OOTP7/8/9 finding an alternative....

It has been re-opened. You can blame me for closing it in the first place. I just wasn't sure whether the thread should be open or not. This is a gray area for me and I apologize.
