I dont ever remember any other thread involving puresim or other BB sims being closed before.... could be wrong though, getting older...

Why in the hell would it even be a gray area?

also...what happened to my post about Icy?....so what if he's working with Draft Day Baseball to help them create logos and other graphical enhancements?

It's a gray area because some people feel competition shouldn't get advertising. I agree this shouldn't be closed though because it makes Markus look like he's afraid of a little competition. This is especially true when it's not even started by the competition.

Anyway, take it easy on the guy. He's just trying to do a good job. He did re-open it.

Who knows what happens to posts around here anymore.

I posted about this topic yesterday in General Discussions. My thread (just one post) was merged with this one in OOTP DISCUSSIONS? Why?

Now its all moved back to Gen Disc. area...........so I guess I WAS in the right place to begin with when I posted. Geez.

Exactly. I couldn't have put it better myself If the thread was started by the competition, then that probably would have been over the line and need to be closed. That is all I was unsure of.

No idea about your Icy post. That wasn't touched by me so I can't help you there.

Don't know if this new game will be a big competition for a few years, rember what happen to OOTPB when it went to a new company to get a new code base and new look, and while the game imho has gotten better, there are still things that OOTPB could do to regain what it once was. I think Puresim and the new Draft Day Sports BB will take just as long to ajust to each other as Markus did with Sports Interactive and could have just as much fall out

The original thread (this one) was moved to General before yours was merged into it. I know this because I'm the one who moved it out of the OOTP forum, and I briefly thought about merging yours into it. Someone else had merged it the next time I saw.

I left a 2 hour redirect in the OOTP forum, so maybe that's why you thought this thread had remained there.

Well, either that or someone moved this back to OOTP, then back to here, and if that happened I don't know what to tell you.

Edit: I just looked at the moderation history for this thread, and it was moved to General before yours was merged into it, and it was never moved back.

As I said, I left an expiring redirect in the OOTP forum so that people who were discussing it wouldn't think the thread had simply vanished. That's probably why it appeared that the thread was there.

We're both right.

To make things clear, I'll explain my situation:

I joined Wolverine Studios staff about month ago as graphical designer and was assigned to some future projects. At that time, WS had not any baseball game so i told Markus and Steve about it and they kept me in the OOTP beta. Past weekend i was told about Shaun joining WS to develop a baseball game and me designated as the designer for it's new interface and graphics, so obviously the first thing i did was to tell Steve and to renounce to my OOTP beta spot as it wouldn't be fair being in the competence.

I must give big thanks to Markus and Steve for having me in the OOTP beta team for 2 years, and even more for keeping me into it even after i joined Wolverine Studios, until i was told about the new baseball title and i resigned from the beta team as i have said before.

I wish the best to the OOTP team and of course will keep coming to this forum as any other OOTP customer. The text sims community is a small niche one, and the more developing companies and support between them, the better for the whole niche and for the customers.

Hey Icy, come back often please, you're always welcome. Thanks for your great help in the beta team. We really appreciate how fair and straightforward you are in this situation! Good luck with your new project, and have fun - after all it's game development

BTW - Markus, Steve and I didn't know anything about closing or moving threads or posts. I think I can speak for each of us when I say that we of course don't like advertising of competitors on our forums. But it's no problem to discuss other baseball games here. Up to a certain limit. Just use common sense when posting

That said, I want to thank our moderators once again for all their help. Without them, this big message boards would be a mess, or we would have to do all the work here on our own and couldn't work on our programs. Sometimes something goes wrong a little bit, but that's okay. Who's perfect?

The moderators can be heavy-handed in protecting your interests, that's for sure. But their loyalty is to be admired, I guess, and equally admirable is the measure of tolerance shown for discussion of your competition.

However, I will say this clearly: If you want to successfully compete with your competitors, the three of you would do well to take a more active role in these forums, engaging in discussions and answering questions, particularly those of prospective customers. I'm talking year-round, not just TRTR. That's my advice; take it or leave it.

This is just a little harsh.

OOTP developers have been VERY gracious in allowing other companies to come in and discuss their products...a LOT more than I would be.

Having said that, I am MORE likely to purchase OOTP products because of it.

You missed the point of my post, dsvitak. I complimented them on their tolerance for allowing the discussion of competition. Presumptuous as it may be, I am trying to give them some business advice.

My point is that these forums need a shot in the arm and nothing does that better than a post from one of them, I have noticed. In my opinion, they need to do it more consistently to ensure that they stay in contact with the community and hold onto public interest, particularly the noobs.

Up until now, I have cared about OOTP to the extent where I have made extra efforts to take up what I perceive to be the slack. I have bookmarked the Wolverine Studios page, however.

Now, my defection and absence due to faltering interest in OOTP would hardly be noticed. But the team has to wonder how many others there are out here that may be feeling the same way as me and who don't take the time to talk about the possibility of leaving like I have done.

I'd much rather have them spend their valuable time working on the game that answering our questions. Beta testers seem to do the best job of answering our questions anyway so I'm quite happy to leave it to them. It's just too bad beta testing hasn't started yet.
