First, let me thank you for replying in such a concise manner by using the quote box. Very smart move when it comes to replying to my long-winded posts. Yes, it probably does seem a might strange to have a sixty year old batboy, but you know what, if our local minor league club here in Bristol, VA were to offer me the job tomorrow, I would take it, sixty or not!
Yes, you are forgiven for being a Yankees fan! HAHA It sure is nice though to have finally witnessed a baseball club winner in Boston after all of the many years of torture that we all had to go through in New England. I have been so disappointed so many times in the past that I thought seriously about giving up on them, but you know and I am sure you feel the same way about the Yankees....once a fan of a team, always a fan of a team. Anyway, I have no problem with us being on either side of a huge rivalry. Makes it more interesting. Yes, I know there are a lot of kids here on the board as there are on many other boards but they need to learn sometime and so why not here? I was a huge promoter of helping these younger people understand that sometimes it is best to keep ones mouth shut sometimes on the boards I have moderated in the past. I spent a lot of time talking to them in private...not trying to sound like I was their father but rather their grandfather and for the most part it worked. So, I think the moderators here would be wise to do the same thing. It is one thing to get lectured in view of your peers and quite another to get talked to in private. Yes, well, I am all for low prices. I was sort of surprised when I saw how much it was for OOTP, but then what else do I have my puny disability check, to spend money on? It is worth it to me. And I hope that there isn't such a thing as a winner and loser between these games. Like, I said, I like them all and I think there is room for them all as long as they aren't exactly alike. I am not familiar with Wolverine, so will have to check them out. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to set up an avatar and signature. I could have sworn I checked there first but maybe I couldn't find one because I hadn't posted yet. And yes, it is a pleasure talking to you and I hope that it does continue in the future. I am going to try to stay away from posting as much as possible as I have been known to get carried away and live on boards....I would rather spend the time actually playing the game. Oh, and yeah, I know what you mean about the great grandkids. At least I have some...two more on the way in February too. I enjoy them. Thanks again for the help and the reply. It is nice to be here, in whatever capacity. Most of the above remarks were said "tongue in cheek" of course but at the same time, I really don't think we need to get into any feuds here. Bad for OOTP and bad for the game...I mean, we can kick dirt on the home plate but once we are back in the clubhouse we ought to be able to forget about a bad call. :-) Greatgrampa (will have an avatar next time. If I can find one with an old man and long beard in one that is...) |

No, I decided to go with my favorite player of all time, and the best hitter of all time! Yeah, yeah, I know I will get an argument there but hey, if he hadn't gone into world war II, just imagine what his stats would have been like!![]()

I have been the Red Sox fan for just 15~16 years, and I know it is not long enough for any old-time true fans.
However, I am little proud that I became a red sox fan in the early 90's, when nothing remarkable was going on in Boston, (Clemens was having a long vacation after his long fat contract, Boggs was thinking about going to New York, and our hope was Jack "Swing and miss" Clark You remember...)I loved baseball ever since I was a little kid, but gave up on Japanese baseball after several traumatic incidents (well, it is a long story), and kind of lost the team to really follow. That was the time I watched the MLB all star game on TV (I think it was like 1988 or 1989), and I really loved what I saw. The problem was that I did not have a team that I could root for. I went to Boston for the college in 1991, and somehow fell in love with the Sox and the Fenway. 1995 was the year I truly enjoyed them, following the team as close as possible, going to the game so often I did not know which was my class room, Fenway or College. ![]() I do not know why, but it somehow remained after I came back to Japan. I maybe in Japan, but my heart is always in Fenway... ![]()

Well, good for you. And it doesn't matter how long you have been a Red Sox fan, just as long as you are one! I bet you have been glad to see all of the Japanese players that are now in major league uniforms. I think it is very good for our game here. And of course the Sox have a couple of really good pitchers from there now too. Oh yeah, I have seen many players come and go at Fenway. I have seen many a year when they made it until the final game only to have people like Bucky Dent ruin their chances. Bucky Dent....give me a break! I just had to mention that so our Yankee friend wouldn't feel left out of the conversation.
I have been to Japan a number of times. I was only six the first time when my father was stationed there in the army, and then I was stationed there back in the early seventies. I have also been over there a couple of times since then, in the nineties just to visit. I love your country and its people a great deal. Your baseball is interesting there as well. I also was in Korea for a while and watched their baseball a lot. A totally different kind of game you play there in Asia, but I enjoyed it a lot. Anyway, nice to meet you Myasu. Any friend of the Red Sox is a friend of mine. We suffered for so many years that it was so sweet when we started to be taken seriously. I would say good bye in your language, but I don't know how to write it using your letters so I will just say take care and hope to talk to you more in the future. Oh yeah, so who is your favorite Red Sox player? Just curious.

I watched him pitch in 1992 NLCS games as a Pirate, and then saw him pitch for us when I was in Boston (wasn't he great in '95?), and he is still around, going strong for a guy his age. (He is only a year younger than I am) I also like his personality a lot, reminds me of ball players from old time. (Does not speak a lot, not flashy or anything, just does his thing)

He woke up one morning and said "I'm going to follow a Major League Baseball team. Now, WWJD?"
![]() I'm not a fan as long as myasu, as I only first attended a game in 2001 when I was in Boston, and as I have said in a thread elsewhere I had airmiles to spend and I'd narrowed the choice down to Chicago or Boston as my views of New York were based on a visit in 1997 or so... I plumped for Boston and was staying at a hotel near Kenmore (a HoJo IIRC) and decided to go along to see a baseball game as it was always in the papers and it seemed like a good way to spend an afternoon. If I'd gone to Chicago I'd have probably gone to Wrigley Field which would at least have saved me several very late nights/early mornings in the last few years watching playoff matches ![]()

His career lifetime OBP is ranked first amongst all players that have ever played, at .4817 ...and he missed 4-6 years of his prime, when THAT number would almost certainly have been higher. |
