A couple of questions about OOTP9
Dear Marcus, Andreas, Steve, & Co. --
It was great to get news of the forthcoming release of OOTP. I have already pre-ordered, but wanted to ask a couple of questions.First, I wanted to ask how the problem of data management will be handled. I found having to manually delete messages from the OOTP2007 savegames (at least, I never found a way to have them deleted automatically) to be pretty annoying. Will there be a better set of options on the league set-up to pare the size of savegames down? My other question is one that is near and dear to my heart. Some time back after the release of OOTP2007 I initiated a discussion with Le Grande Orange about how one might create a fictional universe of the 1940s, with multiple levels of farm teams, independent minor leagues, and the reserve rule in effect. OOTP2007 offered a hope of recreating this with its use of high-school and college feeders, but I could never get those feeders to work in a way that was satisfactory to me. (Maybe someone else solved this -- I haven't really been able to keep up). Anyway, the reason why I have always wanted to have something like this be possible is that it would really put your scouts to work in an interesting way, driving though those small southern or Canadian towns, trolling for a prospect. So my question is: will OOTP9 move a step closer to recreating that sort of universe? If not, is it something that you guys think is a goal worth shooting for? As always, I am eagerly looking forward to the new version.

1. Why isn't this in the General Discussions subforum?
2. Sadly, I think the game is moving away from the individual scouts thing and that means the sending them out to look at prospects on an individual basis. FWIW I think that the direction that was taken makes a lot of sense, especially for modern leagues, but I do kinda like the idea of having actual individual scouts at your beck and call. I think the game ran them all wrong but the right way would IMO cause save files to get even huger so maybe in a couple years...

Thanks, Sid. I think the lack of response indicates the thread was misplaced! My bad . . .
As to individual scouts (if you happen to look at this again), I am less concerned with their being represented in th4e game than in whether we might get the capacity for re-creating the historical universe of the 1920s trhrough 1950s

A couple questions about post-OOTP6.51 AI gameplay
I've pre-ordered the new release, and wondering if either of these have been handled since 6.51:
1 - Trying to steal a base. It's maddening to get the sense that baserunners are ignoring my signs, maybe 90% of the time. My team is 14th of 16 in the league in stolen bases, not for lack of trying. Has this been adjusted? 2 - I've never seen the AI manager bring on a pinch-hitter after I've made a pitching change in the middle of an inning. Is this, or will this be handled? Thanks for any response! Jim |

1. in 2007/8 you can now force send runners and they will go, so yes it's been adjusted, although can't promise that it won't be changed for 9.
2. can't say that I've ever noticed it, did once see a pitch-hitter anounced after I made a pitching change at the top of an inning the computer still tends to make it's moves first. IE it would have made the ph move then I'd change pitchers then it would stick with what it has, but maybe someone else has seen diffently, I don't change them as much as I should.

Re: AI pinch-hitting
Thanks, Zekester. Yeah, it can be an unfair advantage against the AI to bring in, for example, a left-handed reliever against a left-handed batter with terrible ratings against lefties, it the AI can't react with a strong right-handed batter.
