Help me with picking a baseball game
I was thinking of picking up a baseball game for the Xbox 360 to tool around with until OOTP 9 is released (and maybe even after).
I didn't care for MLB 2k8, but to be honest, I didn't find out if there is a manager mode, if there is then I'd try it again. So, I guess first question is, does MLB 2k8 have a manage only option for games? The other three games I was looking at are the only Xbox games that are backwards compatible. They are High Heat 2004, All-Star Baseball 2005, or MVP 2003. Of them, the only one I remember playing is MVP 2003, which doesn't have the manager option, but was a fun arcade game. Has anybody played the other two games and could answer if they have a manage only option, and would they be worth checking out. thanks in advance!! |

2k8 has a manager mode - and it is OK, not great. there are some issues, for example you can't warm up a pitcher when you are hitting. so if you end up PH for the pitcher and haven't warmed up somebody the inning before you won't have any warm pitchers to go in the next inning.
I do like the ability to jump in and out of games. I would like manger mode better if it were the old style manager mode of the tony larussa, earl weaver type, where you actually see the play but it isn't. It is more like a very lite OOTP, or more accurately baseball mogul. Having said all that I do like the game and do like to play from time to time, especially with my 10 year old son. But my playtime is 20-1 OOTP over any arcade game.

IIRC, MVP 2005 is not backwards compatible. At least, not according to xbox.com's most recent (11/07) compatibility list.

I think the MVP games posed an issue for BC, because only 2003 & 2004 are on the list; and I've picked up 2004 in the past, and the colors are so saturated it's not even close to playable IMO. I was thinking of grabbing 2003 though, and was hoping to get some opinions on the older games; because if All-Star or High Heat were better; I'd grab those because they work on the 360. |

I picked up High Heat 04 for the Xbox a couple days ago for $1.99, and it plays a pretty good game of baseball. Not sure how much I'll get out of it, but I think it will tide me over until OOTP9 hits my PC, speaking of which I better get my head out of my arse and grab that pre-order deal....

Second that.
MLB The Show 2008 for the PS3 is, in my opinion, the best non-text-based baseball game ever made. I played High Heat and MVP in the past.

The Road to the Show version of the game is lacking in a lot of ways but that part of the game is very good. The MLB08 game is the greatest graphical game I have ever played but I don't think that'll help a 360 user
