The same reasons there shouldn't be a Front Office Baseball are the same reasons OOTP Football wouldn't work. It starts with the passon of the person making it for that sport.

I would love to see OOTP get into another sport, possible better if it was something like Soccer, not a huge fan of American Football.

I, too, would love to see an OOTP type soccer game, with the same type of customizability OOTP baseball has. The existing soccer management games are deeply flawed, and neither of them has a 'can't get fired' option.

The problem with a soccer game is that Football Manager has a massive following, and trying to break into that would be a nightmare.

You need to opt in to OT to follow links directing there. See near the end of this post for how.

I would prefer something like pro basketball but I am probably in a small minority.
I also imagine getting the licenses would be a lot easier and cheaper for the NBA rather than NFL.

Even though I'm a little more of an American football fan than a pro basketball fan, I think basketball lends itself better to the OOTP model, since it's more of an international game. Markus has indicated that text sims are significantly more popular in Europe than they are in North America. So I would imagine that a basketball game which allowed for the modeling of European leagues would be very successful. The only real drawback, as I see it, is that I can't see the playing out of games being as engaging. (Then again, association football doesn't seem like it should play out that well as a text sim, but just look at how good FM is!)

I guess the bottom line is that if OOTPD can bring someone in with a passion and knowledge for another sport and allow them to build off of OOTP's game engine, any number of game ideas could prove entertaining.

dola,

What I've always wished someone would create is a team-golf sim. I know it sounds ridiculous, since there isn't an established league to model it after (although there are the international cup competitions and college play that use the format) but I think it could be hugely entertaining.

I've just never been able to get into golf (or any other non-team sport, for that matter) beyond the majors. However, I've imagined how interesting it might be if all the PGA golfers played on teams representing cities, like the big North American team sport leagues, instead of simply playing for themselves.

I realize it's a pipe dream and probably wouldn't be profitable, but I wish someone would try something like this at some point. To my knowledge, it's never even been attempted. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if it caught on, especially with the text sim crowd. They seem to be very open-minded to trying new things.

We don't need no stinkin' license. Just make a generic default league, on the lines of the ABA quickstart that we get with OOTP.

I do not know how an english speaking player can claim that he knows soccer better than Germans. Even in english teams the natural speakers are

a) overrated (like so many players in the national team) or
b) only supporting cast and
c) have absolut no clue about goal keeping

The FIFA Mangers series was developed by german software developers (Gerald Köhler and Rolf Langenberg) who worked for EA and had alreday some highly succesfull football games published ("Anstoss").

I missed this thread last fall, and I just found these posts now that it has been revived. I've always vaguely hoped for an OOTP Football and now, with these few words, I realize that it will never happen. What explains Markus' excellence at designing OOTP Baseball also explains why he would not do well with an OOTP Football - a passion, or lack of it, for the game. I had not thought of it this way before now. Now that I have, I readily accept it.
