This I totally disagree with.

Steve used it one year and everyone else picked up on it. The years and years part is the forum users, not continuously coming from official spokesmen. It snowballed to the point where it gets overkill now.

Anyway, my point is not to debate it's origin or who said what, but that it's a useless phrase to a new member. It's well past the worn out stage.

According to another recent post, CONN CHRIS has come and gone a couple of times. Believe me, if he wasn't a current moderator, he wouldn't be able to keep that 'global moderator' tag under his name, and he wouldn't be allowed to make official proclamations.

Speaking of 'global moderators', we have a fair few of them floating around (near the beginning of the year I saw four of them post back-to-back-to-back-to-back in a thread), and I'm wondering when they're going to start doing something about moderating this global warming thing I keep hearing about.

CONN CHRIS has never changed his name during my time here. He was the first forum member to welcome me aboard back when I joined. I'm another basement denizen and an OOTP 9 noob to boot.

You are correct. The term "global" just means that the moderator has the authority to work in all forums, rather than specific ones.

Not saying someone wasn't being nasty while using the phrase but you will want to take it in the context of their post and the thread. It is an old inside joke so if followed with a smile or if not starting or ending a nasty post it was probably meant in jest. So, the company did use the tested and ready line itself, sometimes in fun and sometimes to someone that badgered the board when the question had already been answered with as much accuracy as possible, ie "spring 20XX".

This is a good topic though started by Chris and is much overdue. There are certainly some folks here that need to be reigned in, no different than most boards I visit on the net. Good to see OOTP try to get a handle on the problem.

Yes, technically correct. The trouble is, noobs don't know that history and standard practice and are liable to take it as curt dismissal. I'm not saying to bend over backwards for them, but unless they are acting ornery, we should go out of our way to welcome them for the sake of OOTP (their game, not necessarily their profits, but they are correlated!).

Which is why I took the time to explain it should be taken in context. The poster said himself that ,paraphrasing now, nobody from OOTP would have ever answered a question that way and so IMO was taking it as an insult. I hoped the original poster that brought it up might come back and read my post and find out the history of the phrase. Perhaps in doing so he may find there was no intent to insult in whatever post he happened to see the remark.

On the very rare occasion I ever respond to a new member asking questions, it's usually in my sarcastic and joking way and only in jest. I've never been confronted by a new member that was offended or ticked at anything I responded to their questions with. This absolutely can NOT be said about MD or The Wolf, or whatever he wants to call himself. Frankly, and I don't get offended very often, I was offended by the quoted post and the actions in highlighted. Despite his never being nothing but an ass toward me in my 8 years on this board, I have never publicly advocated his banning.
