Read/Unread threads

Now, at some vBulletin boards, that V or down arrow next to "The Office", which is a link that takes you to the first unread post in the thread, will stay there forever until you have read all the posts in the thread.

At this one, that will eventually go away, whether I've read the thread or not!

Well, by eventually, I mean a period of time, probably an hour, after my last visit. So here it seems to be more like a "posts since your last visit" feature whereas at other vBulletin boards it truly is an "unread posts" feature.

It is extremely frustrating to me. I can't find an option to change it. Does anyone know if there is one available to members?

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

So I gather Andreas has set the automatically mark threads as read, or whatever it is called, setting to something as short as 1 day or maybe even just your last visit. I don't think it's something you yourself could change, but you could ask him to change it. I don't think I've ever consciously noticed it so I doubt many others do. Who knows, maybe most who would notice it would welcome the change like yourself.

It marks everything as read after a visit (note: USUALLY. Sometimes I come back and everything from the previous visit is still 'unread.')
