OOTP needs to have a web hosting service that will really back up their data.

Oh I think we have a really good hosting service already. The daily backups work (obviously). The RAID 1 didn't really work, but that was a technical failure which can happen anytime.
I guess to really improve things we would have to pay several 1000 USD each month. I would really like to do that, but first we need to earn the money

It's okay, I trust everyone on this board to exactly replicate the posts that were lost.

Yeah, I know that there are surely several people here who lost a lot of work (posts) and I'm really sorry about that. I know how that feels, I lost some work and time, too.
But that's the problem with backups: you cannot have backups which are always in sync with the data. To do that, we would need server- and database-mirroring. And that would cost a lot of money, as mentioned.

Oh, I'm sure he wasn't really complaining. When you consider that we lost, what, several weeks worth of posts in the great crash of 2005, a day or so's worth of posts is nothing. This backup system works much much better.

Yeah, I was just joking, the uptime of this board is great. Losing a day isn't a big deal, I was just joking that OOTP customers are so detail oriented I half expect them to remember what they posted and just repost it word for word.

The loss this time seems to have been roughly 12 hours I believe. Pretty damn good in my opinion when I think back to what happened in '05. I had about 500-700 TBCB photo posts vaporize in that one.

Good job with the backups Andreas!

I have mine set to low detail - sometimes I can't even remember what I posted 2 minutes ago

There's not much to say really. A lot of people lost a lot of posts. For most of us it probably meant very little when you really think about it, but for some posters, particularly dynasty writers, it's probably still a pretty sore subject. Some simply stopped whatever it was they were posting about. Some may have even stopped coming altogether. I'm trying to remember exactly when it happened and for how long, but I can't. It's probably best to not even try to. Hopefully many of us learned something from the experience.

I lost about five pages worth of posts from a boxing dynasty in that crash, but thanks to f.montoya and the wonder of cached pages was able to retrieve all but a handful of them.
