Reading that Sportplanet interview with Markus, he said something that was almost music to my ears. "I was toying around with the idea of developing a hockey simulation"
Oh man, after crapping my pants, and cleaning myself off, I saw that because he's doing OOTP4 for the Mac, he won't have time. I selfishly hope that coding for the Mac is too much of a pain in the ass, and Markus has a change of heart. Eastside Hockey Manager's good, but I think Markus' efforts would blow it out of the water. Would anyone else like to see a hockey version of OOTP??! -Lenny S. |

I think a Out of the Rink game would be great, but I don't mind Markus concentrating on OOTP and continually improving that game.
Eastside is pretty good, has tons of features, pretty much everything you can think of, but a lot of the features aren't very polished, managing the team takes too much time and the simming is very slowwwww. Can't complain since it's free, though, I wouldn't mind shelling out a few dozen dollars for an OOTP-style game with 90% of the features, and which is more fun to play. Eastside is very good. Riz now needs to focus on fine tuning the line strategies so that one startegy will not always win. If he gets that accomplished and tightens up the trade AI, anyone would be hard pressed to surpass Eastside as a hockey game.
I'm all for Out of the Rink as long as it's a curling sim!

As a 1980's league hockey commish i would love to see Markus create a hockey league. Each of the current hockey sims seem to have some issues to them. Eastside and Batessoft i think are the top two out there. As a group, the hockey owners are a very loyal lot and i think a larger group than you would think. Solid market for a programmer as yourself. thanks-Don

Actually, I was toying around with the idea of coding a hockey sim. There is already some code, and guess what, the name was "Out Of The Rink Hockey"!
First I'll code OOTP for the Mac, and then MAYBE I'll code something like OOTR

Hey as long as we are wishing how about a College Football game? I have TCY and it is great but a historical replay College game would be awesome!! Doesn't hurt to dream
I actually think a Hockey sim is a great idea, hopefully it will come to fruition. |

As long as we're fantasizing about Markus's future development projects, I think we ought to have OTG -- Off the Tee Golf with all the PGA tour stops, majors, golfer stats...ahhh, it would be great!

While I think Eastside is a good game in its own right, I'm spoiled by some of the things I'm used to in OOTP. Simple things like being able to see a player's game-by-game performance. Like looking at a team's schedule, month-by-month. And most importantly, a UI that's a bit more user friendly. That's why I hope Markus actually takes this project up!

I don't know, with the future of FOF seeming kind of hazy (EA certainly isn't going to do anything with it) and EHM coming along pretty solidly, I think I'd rather see Markus *ahem* tackling a football sim before a hockey sim...

I'd love to see Out of the Rink Hockey, Eastside Hockey seems clunky and waay overblown in some areas. An ootp approach to hockey would be great. I'd love to take a 1967 expansion team like the Flyers thru history... with pubs out like Total Hockey that would be possible...

Yeah it would be nice if Markus could program another sport simulation, But im afraid ootp might suffer.Maybe if he could hire some guys that are as dedicated as he is to the program hes developed, or if him and those other great game creators could get together and form their own sports simulation company id say go for it. They could all learn from each other. I just think it would be too much to ask Markus to dedicate himself to 3 different games by himself.Unless we can let him program a hockey sim and let it develop and not rush him to work night and day rushing fixing every whim..
It would be nice to see a sports simulation company that the creators actually knew the sport created the game for unlike that eye candy EA where Quincy Carter passes for 600 yds a game, basketball scores are 176-151 etc. Anyways i dont think any of us would complain if Markus and these guys wanted to make a profit for their hard work. Just imagine if Markus had developed windows and Bill Gates developed OTTP. lol |

All of the afforementioned games have their pluses and minuses... the key is I keep going back and playing them. Every single one gets dragged out again... altho OOTP hasn't been cast off to be picked up again yet.. still hooked! WHM/FOF and OOTP are favs...

(bump)
The more I play console hockey, the more I want Out of the Rink Hockey. I realize it's probably just a pipe-dream, but boy oh boy would that be great. Maybe one day he'll get the urge to dabble in something other than baseball for a bit.So is hockey Markus's second favourite sport? What about Andreas?

I loved EHM and there are still ties to EHM in the OOTP group I believe.
I played the game for over 20 years and have coached for over 12 (Coaching 2 kids teams now) and offer to help in any fashion, testing, graphics or insight. Last edited by AndrewG; 09-25-2009 at 01:22 PM. |

I know hockey is actually kind of popular in Germany, as the DEL (Germany's hockey league) is probably the best mainland European league outside of the KHL. |
