Accurate gameplay and stats?
Has anyone found the most realistic settings or statistical output? I find that the default settings allow too many passed balls, wild pitches and pitchers allow far too many hits. Any suggestions?
Thank you all! |

I choose "New Standard Game", not imported, and I made no other alterations to roster rules, etc. Whatever the defaults are, that's what I am using. The only thing I changed were the strategies, which I allowed the bench coach to decide.

OK so what are the passed ball and WP numbers compared to what they should be. Also what is the league BA vs what it should be? That's really the only way to see if it is an issue.

I'm actually looking for settings that will help the game be more true to MLB games. I've started a new season and will chart the WP and passed ball numbers. I was actually just looking for help on settings to make the game more true to MLB games.

That's what I'm trying to help you with. Changes can't be made until we know what the numbers are vs what they should be. For example there were 321 PB in 2015 MLB. That's 1 per 15 games. Go look at team defensive stats from the main menu and look at the PB numbers and GP.

Thanks, once I have a few games under my belt I'll pass on some info. However, in game 1 of my season against the LA Dodgers, Kershaw went 2 for 2 with an rbi while Gonzalez went hitless. Oh, there was also a passed ball and an over throw to second by my catcher Norris. Sure its a small sample size, I know, but already that's seems like an unlikely scenario.

if you are playing with real players, you will have to slowly change things the first couple decades. long story short, they are quite different than created players. so, once you run out of real world amatuers, you start seeing your league talent distribution change in drastic ways.
you can do csv data dumps for batting/pitching/fielding statistics. you can also make use of the in-game report... the name is something like "historical accuracy" etc... you'll know it when you find it. plus/minus percents for various stats each season you've played. one note, what the game considers 'normal' may not be what you want normal to be. take note of that on the historical accuracy screen. there's no simple answer for you, unfortunately. even suggestions will illicit arguments, lol. the easiest way? - take a screenshot or note of your current settings. then click auto-calc a few times. take an average of the results. since it doesn't take long, i'd click it 10 to 20 times. have a spreadsheet ready to make all the calculations - one formula and a click and drag, done. if it's a fictional league*, i'd suggest one night simming out as far as it will go while you sleep or until you come back to play (go over 100, but you don't need a millenia, lol). you can use the data dumps to get a large sample average for various stats and make an informed decision on changing the league total modifiers. once you've begun this process do not change league totals, even if they are whacky to you. stick to only changing the modifiers. if you feel the need to change them, do it before you start, because any changed modifier is now useless and might affect others in a drastic way. one other note about fictional - you'll want to start it 30-50 years before your start date and sim till your wanted year. then, erase the league history, stats and such to make it as if it just started. problem solved. why: the minor leaguers are not the same as what will be created in future years for drafts. somewhat similar to real-world leauge talent change, but not as drastic and not as many involved.
