Fix arbitration...
Playing through my first fictional league I have been letting all my players go to arbitration without trying to offer any contracts until they are no longer arbitration elligible. I do this to get a feel for arbitration in the game.
I notice a bunch of mediocre players getting awarded $12,000,000 contracts after very mediocre years. The problem seems to be that if the player ever had a good year earlier in his career he gets big money because of his past success. In one offseason I had a backup 1b get $12,000,000 and I noticed that three years ago he was a starter for another team and hit 25 HR and .290 avg. I had my 5th starter also get $12,000,000 and I noticed a few years ago he went 14-8 with a 3.16 ERA. Their most recent years were both well below average but they still get huge arbitration numbers and I think this is the reason why. Needs to be fixed obviously. |

Remember if you let them go to arbritration, no matter what they will get at the bare minimum 80% of their current salary. It's part of the risk of letting them go there year after year. I do the same thing.
If you have a guy who is arbritration eligiable go there after a stud year and he gets a $14,000,000 deal. Then the lowest deal he possiably can get if you let him go to arbritration even if he hits .150 the next year is $11,200,000
